Contest of the Week – Clairol Natural Instincts Hair Color

If you can master dyeing your own hair it definitely saves major money! This week, we are giving away Clairol Natural Instincts Hair Color in 20 Medium Brown. To enter to win, just comment below with your best tip for DIY hair dyeing.

Here’s ours: These days, most formulas are non-drip. But to give yourself peace of mind, try piling your hair on top of your head then putting a disposable shower cap over it while you’re waiting for it to process. That way there’s minimal mess.

P.S. If you’re just starting out, avoid changing your hair more than 3 shades away from your natural color at home.

One winner will be chosen by 3/21/2012 and notified by email 3/28/2012. U.S. residents only. Odds of winning are 1 out of number of comments on this blog post.

I apply vasoline around my hair line, & on ears & nape of neck to keep the color from staining my skin. I also like to apply my hair color to slighty damp hair instead of dry hair.
Big tip: Don’t smoke or cook~go near heaters while hair color is setting.

I start the process applying hand cream to my hairline and all skin near my hair, the hand cream is heavier than other creams but is not that messy, it won’t make you sweat while waiting and it will protect you from the dye, and don’t forget to wear the gloves.

The best advice I have is to do a strand test first; it is better to have a few strands being a horrible color than a head-full!
