wet n wild megalast nail color
February 22nd, 2011
When we tried wet n wild’s megalast nail color, we expected a day or two of wear before chipping given the $1.99 price tag. However, this is literally the longest lasting nail polish that we’ve tried to date (including higher end brands such as O.P.I.). We went to wet n wild’s website and saw that their megalast nail color contains a polymer system that helps the polish to adhere to your nails. And as a nice touch, the polish is calcium and mineral fortified to prevent nail discoloration. This was especially useful since the shade we tried, Red Tape, was a very vibrant red. Another bonus is that this polish is toulene, phthalate, and formaldehyde free. We’re really impressed by the quality of megalast nail color, and at $1.99 we can certainly afford to get even more colors!

Almay Smart Shade Anti-Aging Concealer
February 21st, 2011
Instead of just covering your crow’s feet with makeup, you can treat your skin at the same time with Almay’s Smart Shade Anti-Aging Concealer. It moisturizes your skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, depuffs your eyes, and it has an SPF of 20 to reduce further damage. This product comes in light, medium, and dark and it transforms into your ideal shade upon application. What we loved the most is that we got a perfect concealer color and our eyes looked smooth. However, even though the product is hypoallergenic we felt a little bit of sting while using it. Maybe it was the ingredients that depuff? This concealer is great if you’re looking to combat aging and smooth your skin. But if you have dark under eye circles it may not be enough coverage – this concealer provides light to medium coverage.

Almay Intense I-Color Smoky-I Kit
February 17th, 2011
Almay has a line of eyeshadow kits that are designed to flatter your natural eye color. We tried the kit for brown eyes and didn’t think the purple shade (for the crease) would look good at all. However, if applied with a light hand it looked great. These kits are made for the smoky eye look, so if you want to go for a day time look don’t go any farther than your crease with the darkest shade. By the way, these eyeshadows are hypoallergenic as well as talc and paraben free!

Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System
February 15th, 2011
Although we really wanted to try the Clarisonic Cleansing System, the $195 price tag gave us pause. Clarisonic is a rotating brush for your face that uses sonic technology to cleanse. The Clarisonic claims to be 6x more effective at removing makeup and 2x more effective at removing dirt and oil. By giving a thorough cleansing, the Clarisonic makes it so your skincare products are able to work more effectively. Olay has recently launched their Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System, and this system is said to be just as effective as the Clarisonic! We purchased it at Walgreens for just $29.99, and since they were having a promotion we also got a full-sized cleanser (a $19.99 value) for free. It also comes with a sample size of the Olay Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser. What we loved the most about this is the luxurious feeling of the brush and that it’s whisper quiet. It’s very soft and it’s wonderful to have a spa-like experience every time you wash your face. Also, since the Pro-X Cleansing System exfoliates dead skin cells, it leaves your skin feeling very soft. However, we don’t recommend using this twice a day. Using it more than once may be a little much exfoliation for most people’s skin. Also rather than following the directions on the box which said to massage the cleanser on the face and then use the brush, we just put the cleanser directly on the brush and were happy with the results. The Olay Pro-X replaceable brush head is water-resistant and operates on two speed settings. We’re not sure how great the Clarisonic is in comparison, but we definitely think that the Olay Pro-X is a great buy.

L’Oreal Paris EverStrong Hydrate Shampoo
February 14th, 2011
L’Oreal Paris has a new line of shampoos, conditioners, and advanced treatments called EverPure. The EverPure line is free of harsh sulfates (a must for color-treated hair) and promises a rich lather. We tried the EverPure hydrate shampoo which is said to ‘inject strength after one wash’. Our hair seemed less prone to breakage but it also had way more volume! Our guess is that the rich lather took away all the product buildup but either way, we got a luxurious and thick hair as a result. We really recommend this if you really want moisture but don’t want your hair to be weighed down. If your hair is not fine, you may not appreciate the volume as much but you’ll love the really clean feeling. The scent of this shampoo is unique as well – it contains rosemary, juniper, and mint.

CoverGirl TRUcheeks Blush
February 10th, 2011
We are fans of the CoverGirl TRUblend line, which is a line of cosmetics that adjust to go with your skin tone. Once you know what your foundation is, there are corresponding concealers, pressed powders, and blushes marked with the same number as your foundation. It eliminates the amount of time many of us spend in the drugstore aisle staring at products and trying to figure out the right shades. TRUcheeks blush has a palette of 3 complementary colors that are meant to be mixed to get the perfect shade you want. However, if you’re like us and like a contoured look, you can you use the lightest color to highlight your cheek bones, the mid-color for the apples of your cheeks, and the darkest color for the hollow of your cheek.
