Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Pads – Product Review

Thursday, November 12th, 2015

glycolic-padsOne of my favorite new products is Nip+Fab’s Glycolic Fix Pads. My skin can sometimes be acne prone, but yet it still dries out easily so it is hard to find a product that suits my needs that contains Glycolic Acid. But these pads contain hyaluronic acid, which helps to moisturize skin. The pads exfoliate gently and help even skin tone.

I have almost finished my first tub of pads, and I can actually tell a difference in my skin! This is one of the few products I’ve tried where I can see a noticeable difference. My skin tone looks healthy and I feel like dark spots have been reduced.

Product: Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Pads

Description: “Unveil younger-looking skin. 60 radiance-boosting pads, soaked in exfoliating glycolic acid retexture + resurface skin whilst witch hazel helps to tone. This moisturizing formula with hyaluronic acid + soothing blue daisy helps to reveal brighter + smoother looking skin.”

Price: $12.95 at Walgreens.

How to Transition to a Fall Skincare Routine

Wednesday, September 9th, 2015

Aveeno-Body-WashAs the cooler fall season approaches us, the air will be drier and weather conditions will be harsh on skin. That summer glow will be gone, and it is important to make sure your skincare routine has been adjusted for the change. Here are a few tips to make the transition smooth and keep your skin healthy and looking fabulous.

1. Add a Facial Moisturizer to Your Routine

If you haven’t already, make sure you are using an oil-free facial moisturizer once daily. The colder weather can dry out your skin and leave it chapped and cracked. If you are already using a moisturizer, it might be a good idea to switch from a light moisturizer to a medium or heavy facial moisturizer or cream. Skin needs more moisture in the cooler weather than in the summer when humidity is at it’s highest. A good facial moisturizer to try is Neutrogena’s Deep Moisture Day Cream With SPF 20 (don’t forget to use sun protection, even in the cooler seasons!).

2. Use a Hydrating Body Wash
Used to using soap in the shower? Think again! Most soaps can dry out your skin, so switching to a creamy body wash or gel will keep your skin moisturized. Try Aveeno Positively Nourishing Hydrating Body Wash.

Nuance3. Exfoliate
Don’t forget the importance of exfoliating to keep your skin smooth and soft. Drier skin is going need more exfoliation than hydrated skin. Use a salt or sugar scrub in the shower weekly to buff and smooth skin and remove any dead skin cell buildup. One of our favorites is Nuance Salma Hayek Walnut Body Scrub sold at CVS/pharmacy. It not only moisturizes while it exfoliates, but it smells delicious!

4. Lip Protection

Not that anyone would forget chapstick, but don’t underestimate the importance of lip protection. With the cooler weather, your lips will dry out even quicker than in the summer and you’ll find yourself needing to apply more often. Keep lips moist with Burt’s Bees Chapstick, available in a variety of delicious scents.

With just these few easy adjustments, you can make the transition from your summer skincare routine to fall skincare a smooth one. Don’t forget to take travel size products with you on-the-go, especially when you’ll be traveling away from home where the weather isn’t what you’re used to. A purse-sized hand cream or lotion and chapstick are must-haves for the fall season. And be sure to add in some of the delicious fall fragrances like vanilla and brown sugar!

How to Deal With a Sunburn

Thursday, June 25th, 2015

neutrogenaWe all know that the best way to take care of your skin is to avoid a sunburn in the first place. Keep your skin protected from the sun with a product that offers both UVA and UVB protection (one of our favorites is Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock with SPF 70). Although we all want to avoid burning, most people will receive at least one bad sunburn during the summer season. Here are a few ways to help your skin recover from too much time spent in the sun.

1. Moisturize

A sunburn will not only cause pain and redness, but will also cause major dryness to your skin. Make sure to keep your skin moisturized with a product containing Vitamin C and Vitamin C. Aloe Vera is a go-to product to help your skin recover from sun damage. Try Banana Boat Soothing Aloe After Sun Gel. It is also a good idea to moisturize your skin with an after-sun treatment even when you have not gotten burned. Try Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun Lotion, which will soothe the skin and has a nice fragrance.

2. Hydrate

A Sunburn draws fluid to the surface of your skin, so it is important to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water in the days you are recovering from a sunburn.

If your sunburn is causing excessive pain and is blistering, you may benefit from taking a couple ibuprofen. This will help the swelling and redness, and relieve temporary pain caused by the burn.

4. Leave it Alone to Heal
If your skin is peeling and blistering, do not pick at the blisters or peel the skin. Touching and irritating the affected areas can lead to a slower recovery time, and even permanent scarring if you have blisters.

Tips for Healthy Hair This Summer

Monday, June 15th, 2015

summer-hairSummer can be a hard season on your hair, what with swimming in chlorine and salt water, and not to mention the heat! Frizz, split ends, and dry damaged hair and only a few of the results that summer can have on your hair. Make sure to do everything you can to protect your hair during the hottest time of year. Here are some tips on ways to make sure your locks stay luscious this summer.

fekkai1. Get a Trim
Keep your ends healthy by starting summer off right with a trim. Or opt for a short summer cut to keep cool in the heat. Remember, hair grows faster in the summer than in the winter, so you may need another cut before fall.

2. Protect Your Hair From the Sun
Apply a UV protection product to your hair prior to spending time in the sun. There are many products available that come in a spray, gel, or cream. Try Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil or Biosilk Thermal Shield.

3. Keep Your Hair Hydrated
Make sure to use a deep conditioning treatment often to keep your locks hydrated. Try Frédéric Fekkai Summer Hair After Sun Daily Mask, great for repairing damage caused by heat.

hair_243x406_0002_dm-sh71-3901004. Use Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner
Change your shower routine to include a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Since summer tends to mean showering and shampooing more often, it’s important to make sure your strands stay moisturized. Try Dove Daily Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s also a good idea to use a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove buildup from extra products.

5. Ditch the Heat Tools

Take advantage of the warmer weather and let your hair air-dry instead of using a blow dryer. Skip or reduce the frequency of using curling irons and straighteners, as heat tools will cause excess damage to your hair. When using them, just be sure to apply a thermal shield to your hair before hand.

Product Review: Revlon ColorStay Makeup

Friday, May 29th, 2015

revlonThis Friday I thought I’d do a product review on one of my favorite go-to cosmetics. I’ve been trying different face products and foundations for years now, and have finally found a drugstore brand that provides everything I could ask for in a foundation.

Product: Revlon ColorStay Makeup

Product Description: A long-wearing foundation that is lightweight and will not fade or rub off. No cakey feel. This makeup is made to last all day and provide continuous hydration.

Results: The product goes on smoothly, and provides enough coverage to hide flaws and uneven skin tone, but is still light enough that it looks natural. The foundation lives up to it’s claim and last’s all day (even in the heat!). No makeup settling into lines and creases – just an oil free flawless look that lasts all day!
