RoC® MULTI CORREXION® 5 in 1 Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Friday, July 4th, 2014

eraseRoC® is a well-respected anti-aging drugstore brand, so we tried their MULTI CORREXION® 5 in 1 Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30. Why is it called 5 in 1? It’s supposed to fight discoloration, sagging, dryness, dull tone, and wrinkles. Fortunately, this product turned out to be a winner in particular with sagging, skin tone, and wrinkles. The product works because of HEXINOL technology. We looked it up and found out that it has molecules that improve aging, but not what it actually is. We’re curious to know what the actual ingredients are.

Garnier Clean+ Smoothing Cream Cleanser

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

erase2Since we tried Garnier Clean + Purifying Foam Cleanser and liked it, we wanted to try the cleanser for dry skin – Garnier Clean+ Smoothing Cream Cleanser. Fortunately, our tester with dry skin liked this cleanser as much as our tester with combination skin liked the Purifying Foam Cleanser. The Smoothing Cream Cleanser is great for dry skin since it has jojoba and macadamia oils. As you may already know, oil doesn’t always mean pore clogging. Including oil in this cleanser was ingenious because the oils dissolve your makeup. Those of you with dry skin know that cleansers for dry skin are typically gentle, and unfortunately gentle on makeup removal. You’ll like how it feels to get a thorough cleansing without stripping your skin. After washing dry skin, you have to reach immediately for moisturizer before your skin starts feeling tight. Smoothing Cream Cleanser gives you more time and leaves your skin feeling comfortable. Also, when you use water you’ll get a good lather, which is pretty unique for a creamy cleanser. The scent of this product (like all Garnier products) is refreshing, but we wonder if it may be too heavily fragranced for sensitive skin.

Tip: If you have dry skin, you know how important it is to drink enough water. But you can take it a step further and eat foods that are good for your skin as well. Try stocking up on salmon and avocado. Both are helpful to skin lipid layers!

TONI&GUY Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner for Damaged Hair

Sunday, June 22nd, 2014

eraseSome of the greatest beauty companies are across the pond. TONY&GUY was established by two brothers who founded their own salon in 1963. Their salons are now franchised and you can buy their hair products. We tried their Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner for Damaged Hair. These products are supposed to penetrate the hair shaft to revitalize damaged hair. With consistent use we noticed last hair breakage. However, if your hair is very dry you may want something more emollient. Since dry and damaged are hair issues that go hand in hand, we would have liked to see more moisture. If you’re not into heavily fragranced products, you’ll appreciate the subtle scent of the shampoo and conditioner.

Tip: Is your hair really damaged? The best thing to do is to trim damaged strands. But if you’re not willing to cut, try giving your hair a heat break and only using hot tools a couple times a week. Braids, pony tails, ballerina buns, sponge rollers…the possibilities are endless for heat free styles!

John Frieda Colour Refreshing Gloss

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014

Dyeing your hair can be scary, especially if you’re not great at doing your own hair. But there’s a step in between -hair gloss. We tried John Frieda’s Colour Refreshing Gloss in for Cool Reds, which is a weekly treatment that you can use to refresh your color in between coloring. You won’t get drastic results, this is more about maintaining the color you have. We were thankful that the whole glossing process can be done while showering, no destroying your bathroom! You shampoo and then put the gloss on before conditioning. After using it we got a moderate boost in hair color, but nothing hugely noticeable. Don’t be scared of the vibrant color, it won’t show up on your hair that way at all. It’s like a dark lip balm, it never goes on as pigmented as it looks. Another benefit of using a gloss is that like dye, it coats your hair, which is great for protecting your hair from damage. If you want noticeable but temporary results, we suggest using a rinse, which is a bit stronger than a gloss.

Tip: Squeeze as much excess water as possible before applying the gloss. Remember, the more water that’s on your hair – the more you’re diluting the product.
