Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover

Saturday, January 5th, 2013

One of the keys to giving yourself a professional looking manicure is taking care of your cuticles. We tried Sally Hansen’s Instant Cuticle Remover and found it to be pretty effective. It’s said to remove cuticles in 15 seconds and contains chamomile and aloe to soothe the skin. It did the job and didn’t leave our skin peeling like some overly aggressive cuticle removers can. You also get a generous amount in the bottle so it will last for months. The directions say to use with a cuticle pusher, but we found that to get results like the pros it’s best to use with a cuticle remover tool (just be careful!)

Rimmel Lycra Lash Extender

Thursday, December 20th, 2012

When you see a mascara that says it will make your lashes 60% longer with 50% more curl, you’ve got to try it. The lycra in this mascara is said to work by keeping eyelashes flexible, while stretching and holding them in shape for 14 hours. It also contains Vitamin E & Panthenol. What we loved about this mascara was that it never left our lashes brittle. Although it did make our lashes longer, we didn’t quite see a 60% increase. Be careful when applying this mascara – since it makes your eyelashes curl more, it’s easier to accidentally get mascara on your eyelids.

Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer with Sunscreen – Normal Skin

Monday, December 3rd, 2012

Olay has been known for their moisturizers for quite some time. We tried their All Day Moisturizer with Sunscreen for normal skin, which has vitamins E, B3, & C. Although this formula was for normal skin, we thought it was moisturizing enough to get away with for dry skin as well. We really loved what it did for the texture of our skin, and it’s always nice to have sunscreen and moisturizer in one step. We all know that we’re supposed to put sunscreen on by itself, but how many of us really do it? At least with Olay you have a little protection. Although this product works wonderfully for normal and dry skin types, we found that for acne prone skin, it can cause break outs.

Maybelline Super Stay 10 HR Gloss

Tuesday, November 27th, 2012

Lip stains don’t provide enough moisture or coverage, and gloss doesn’t last that long at all. Maybelline gives the best of both worlds with their Maybelline Super Stay 10 HR Gloss. We tried it in Mauve Dream (which is a very flattering shade of pink) and thought that it was a really neat product. It goes on smooth like a gloss but adheres to your lip like a stain. Unlike other long wear lip products, it didn’t crumble or dry our lips out. However, it’s not emollient, so you can’t rely on it to moisturize your lips. For dry lips, we found that this product worked best with a touch of gloss on top. Super Stay 10 HR Gloss layers nicely with glosses and balms. We also loved how light this product feels. It feels like you have nothing on and when you go to reapply you’ll see that you still have a lot of color. This is one of our favorite long-wearing lip products to date.

BareMinerals Naturally Luminous Daily Duo – Combination Skin

Monday, November 26th, 2012

Changing skincare brands can be quite a commitment since full size products can last for months. At Ulta, we found a 30 day supply of BareMinerals face wash and moisturizer. BareMinerals Naturally Luminous Daily Duo for combination skin contains their ActiveSoil Complex. The ActiveSoil Complex is actually extracted from real soil and contains minerals that benefit the skin. The cleanser also has fruit enzymes for thorough cleansing and exfoliation, avocado oil for hydration, and pomegranate for moisture balance. The moisturizer has anti-oxidants and plant ingredients that hydrate and protect the skin. We thought both products worked well. The Purifying Facial Cleanser is great at removing makeup and the Purely Nourishing Moisturizer has a neat, earthy scent. However, we don’t recommend this product for people with very sensitive skin.
