NYX Slim Sparkle Eye Pencil

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

This Spring’s fashion is definitely about bright colors, and it’s always fun to go beyond the usual black eyeliner. We tried Slim Sparkle Eye Pencil by NYX in Green Sparkle and were really surprised by the quality since it’s priced under $4. It glides on smoothly and blended well with our eyeshadow. This is probably because the formula contains coconut oil, which is also great for your skin. We love that NYX took the time to put something in their eyeliner that’s also conditioning. The green is a stand out, vibrant shade, which would look great on hazel or brown eyes. The Sparkle Eye Pencils all have glitter, which adds a fun shimmer to your look. If you’re not into sparkles then this may not be for you.

CoverGirl Blast Flipstick Lip Color

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

Since fuchsia lipstick is in style, we’ve been reviewing this great pink shade by different brands. We reviewed NYX Round Lipstick in 639 Eucalyptus, and this week we tried CoverGirl’s Blast Flipstick Lip Color in Pucker. With this lipstick, you get two colors that you can blend or wear separately. One color is fairly close to the NYX color we tried, and the other is more of a frosted pink. Priced at around $10.00, this may be a little more expensive than other lipsticks in the drugstore but you’re actually getting two lipsticks. The tube is pretty   large so they weren’t stingy with the product at all. What we thought stood out the most about this formula was its staying power. It goes on and on for the entire day and it’s very moisturizing. These are real full coverage lipsticks, so the shade you see is exactly how it appears on your lips. Frosted lipstick is a bit more challenging to wear, so our favorite side was the fuchsia shade.

Got2b Anti-Frizz Shine Serum

Friday, March 16th, 2012

Now that the weather is getting warmer, humidity is on the way. We tried Got2b’s Anti-Frizz Shine Serum to see how it did with frizz and it thought it worked pretty well. Since this product has conditioning agents, it makes it a bit different from other silicone based products. Our favorite way to use this serum was to use it to make sleek ponytails. By using it as a finishing product, it helps prevent annoying flyaways and frizz. This is a very thick product, so a little goes a long way. For a ponytail, we thought it was best to use a dime size amount, rub our hands together, and then use them to smooth the front. You’ll also want to make sure you apply evenly; you definitely don’t want globs of shine here and there! We think this product is great for those who have thick or very frizzy hair. If you consider your hair thin, Anti-Frizz Shine Serum may weigh your hair down.

Beautiful Lipsticks to Try This Spring

Monday, March 12th, 2012

When springtime comes around, everything around us is fresh and new – your lipstick should be no exception. This season, forget being a wallflower – take a cue from nature, and choose one of these bold, beautiful lip trends:

  • Vibrant Tangerines – These vintage-inspired hues bring to mind fair-skinned, peach-cheeked beauties from the early 19th century, but this season brings us bright orange puckers that are entirely modern. Tangerine lips have been seen gracing the runways of top designers like Jason Wu, and you can pull off the look whether you’re heading to the office or out for a night on the town. These colors will look best on women with warm skin tones. Try MAC Cosmetics’ lipstick in Morange. Or, for a two-toned, shimmery look, go for COVERGIRL’s Blast Flipstick Lipcolor in Stunner.
  • Saturated Pinks – Youthful saturated pinks are everywhere this season. Even though these glossy bubblegum hues may seem better suited for a younger crowd, don’t pass up the chance to really stand out on those drizzly spring days. This color, which you can apply yourself or have done by a professional
    cosmetologist
, will look great on women with fair or dark skin and best on those with cooler skin tones. Choose a high-gloss color like Revlon Lip Butter in Cupcake or Sephora
Collection Cream Lip Stain in Forever Fuschia.
  • Matte Nudes – Another trend buzzing around the makeup blogs this season is the matte nude finish – a la Kim Kardashian. Love her or hate her, her in-the-buff, velvety lips really stand out despite blending in. This truly is a universal look, because any woman can find a shade that will complement her natural skin color. Try Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Madere, or Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Stain in Exposed. Ladies with darker skin colors will look fabulous in L’Oreal Paris Endless Lipcolor in In The Buff.

NYX Round Lipstick

Monday, March 12th, 2012

The current hot makeup trend right now is hot pink lips. We saw the perfect en trend shade at Ulta for just $3.99 from NYX Cosmetics (we caught their buy 1 get 1 50% off sale). The shade we found is 639 Eucalyptus, and it has the perfect blend of pigment and moisture. It’s a true lipstick, so it has a creamy texture and gives saturated color, while at the same time it wears for hours without drying out. According to their website, NYX Round Lipstick has a ‘mineral based emollient formula’. There are a lot of great lipsticks on the market, but we think this is one of the best for quality vs. price.
