Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream is different from other anti-aging creams in that it promises not only to diminish wrinkles, but also to tighten. This cream is said to firm sagging prone areas, smooth skin’s surface, and restore elasticity. We tried it and loved how luxurious the cream felt (which isn’t greasy at all). We thought the fragrance was a bit strong, but it’s also available fragrance-free. We found that it did all that it promised without getting in the way of our makeup. It’s a wonderful moisturizer and gives the skin a more youthful look. Of course, there’s no drastic ‘lift’, but it’s our belief that radical changes mostly come from a doctor’s visits. This is more expensive than many drug store moisturizers since it’s over $20, but the quality is comparable to department store brands.

Biore Combination Skin Balancing Cleanser

Friday, May 11th, 2012

If you have the conundrum of having both oily and dry skin, we are sure you’ll love Biore Combination Skin Balancing Cleanser. This product claims to remove all impurities while leaving 90% of skin’s natural moisture. We tried it and found that it really does work. It removes all of the makeup and dirt, but you don’t have the dry, tight skin that some cleansers leave behind. If you have oily skin you will probably like this as well, as even oily skin needs moisture, and will product more oil if dehydrated. We also discovered this cleanser works great with electric cleansers are silicone scrublets (such as the one that comes with L’Oreal’s 360° Cleansers). We’re not surprised that this is a great product though since their pore strips are an all time favorite.

Nuance Salma Hayek Exfoliating Body Cleansing Scrub

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

When we read the article on Salma Hayek in Marie’s Claire’s @Work Magazine, we just had to try her line of beauty products, Nuance Salma Hayek. The entire Nuance Salma Hayek line is exclusive to CVS and paraben free, and even better – it’s not tested on animals.  We tried the Exfoliating Body Cleansing Scrub in Macademia Nut, which is not inexpensive for a drugstore brand (it’s $8.99). What surprised us is that it’s a very creamy formula, and it doesn’t actually feel like scrub. This scrub is said to work to remove dead skin cells from the macademia nut oil and the microbeads working together. If you really want to SCRUB your skin, we suggest trying this with a loofa. We really like that the scent is light and doesn’t compete with whatever perfume you wear for the day. Nuance Salma Hayek also offers products in Cosmetics, Skincare, Haircare, and Body. CoverGirl LashBlast 24 Hour Mascara

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Removing waterproof mascara can be pretty annoying so we were intrigued when we saw CoverGirl’s LashBlast 24 Hour Mascara which claims to stay put for 24 hours, but it’s not waterproof. The mascara brush is definitely huge, and the nubs on the brush really allow you to coat your lashes. However, this is a formula that is best in one layer. If you try to do multiple coats of mascara you’ll get clumps. The look is volumized of course, and you should really wiggle the wand upon application to prevent your lashes from sticking together. After some trial and error we loved the look. However, this is not a mascara that’s going to easily wash away. We suggest using our favorite, Neutrogena Makeup Removing Cleansing Towelettes, by using about 3 swipes. If you don’t remove this mascara properly at night it will definitely travel under you’re the eye area by morning (a little bit of a raccoon look). Our verdict is that  this is a great mascara for when you’re going out, but requires more effort for makeup removal than every day users might expect.

Prescriptives Virtual Matte Oil-Control Makeup SPF 15

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

When you have oily skin, the oil tends to break down your makeup, and then over time it looks progressively more ridiculous. We tried Prescriptives Virtual Matte Oil-Control Makeup since Prescriptives has a reputation for being the go to brand for foundation. Unfortunately, Prescriptives is now only available online. So you might be thinking, well how would I get the right foundation? They have a shade finder online so you can select the right shade. However, we found this system to be flawed, particularly since the result is 3 shade recommendations. Your better bet is to do an online chat with one of the beauty experts who will only ask you a couple of questions. But our strategy was to not only give them a couple of celebrities that shared our skin color, but also go on our social media website and give them the image link to our pictures. By doing this we got the perfect shade in the mail! This makeup promises to not only reduce shine but also stop oil production over time. It actually does work! This is a thicker foundation that gives you medium to full coverage, so you natural gals probably won’t like it. The finish isn’t overly matte though, so at least you have a more natural look if not feel. The only drawback with this foundation is that it has salicylic acid, which can be irritating to those with sensitive skin when used on a daily basis. Virtual Matte Oil-Control Makeup costs $35 and shipping is free, but you also get free samples! We got a phenomenal two shade eyeliner and a generously trial sized day moisturizer, so the department store pricing didn’t have as much of a sting. This didn’t have the staying power as one of our favorite foundations, Estee Lauder Double Wear, but at the same time it wasn’t as drying. In sum, this is a great foundation but you need to do some extra work to make sure you select the correct shade.

Maybelline Volum’ Express the Falsies Mascara

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012

We already tried Maybelline Volum’ Express the Colossal Mascara so we wanted to give their Falsies Mascara a try. With this product, you actually do get a dramatic, false eye-lash look. The brush is spoon shaped, which really makes a difference, and it also has fibers in it. Fibers are a main ingredient in many mascaras that truly lengthen your lashes. With the Falsies mascara, how you apply it really makes a difference. If you hold the brush spoon side against your lashes you won’t get any clumps. If you do it the other way you get clumps but it also gives more of a false lash effect. One coat of this mascara does the job, but if you want to do more than one definitely don’t let the mascara dry between coats.

Mustela Musti Eau de Soin Spray

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

There’s nothing better than a light, fresh fragrance when it’s hot outside. We tried Mustela’s Musti Eau de Soin Spray and loved the scent. It’s a great combination of fruit and floral notes, and is actually good for your skin. This is formulated to be used on babies and their linens and clothes so it’s hypoallergenic as well. It’s a very subtle scent, so if you’re comparing it to Loves Baby Soft it’s fainter. We recommend this for a unique baby shower gift or for people who complain that perfume is too ‘heavy’.
