Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Although we really wanted to try the Clarisonic Cleansing System, the $195 price tag gave us pause. Clarisonic is a rotating brush for your face that uses sonic technology to cleanse. The Clarisonic claims to be 6x more effective at removing makeup and 2x more effective at removing dirt and oil. By giving a thorough cleansing, the Clarisonic makes it so your skincare products are able to work more effectively. Olay has recently launched their Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System, and this system is said to be just as effective as the Clarisonic! We purchased it at Walgreens for just $29.99, and since they were having a promotion we also got a full-sized cleanser (a $19.99 value) for free. It also comes with a sample size of the Olay Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser. What we loved the most about this is the luxurious feeling of the brush and that it’s whisper quiet. It’s very soft and it’s wonderful to have a spa-like experience every time you wash your face. Also, since the Pro-X Cleansing System exfoliates dead skin cells, it leaves your skin feeling very soft. However, we don’t recommend using this twice a day. Using it more than once may be a little much exfoliation for most people’s skin. Also rather than following the directions on the box which said to massage the cleanser on the face and then use the brush, we just put the cleanser directly on the brush and were happy with the results. The Olay Pro-X replaceable brush head is water-resistant and operates on two speed settings. We’re not sure how great the Clarisonic is in comparison, but we definitely think that the Olay Pro-X is a great buy.

L’Oreal Paris EverStrong Hydrate Shampoo

Monday, February 14th, 2011

L’Oreal Paris has a new line of shampoos, conditioners, and advanced treatments called EverPure. The EverPure line is free of harsh sulfates (a must for color-treated hair) and promises a rich lather. We tried the EverPure hydrate shampoo which is said to ‘inject strength after one wash’. Our hair seemed less prone to breakage but it also had way more volume! Our guess is that the rich lather took away all the product buildup but either way, we got a luxurious and thick hair as a result. We really recommend this if you really want moisture but don’t want your hair to be weighed down. If your hair is not fine, you may not appreciate the volume as much but you’ll love the really clean feeling. The scent of this shampoo is unique as well – it contains rosemary, juniper, and mint.

CoverGirl TRUcheeks Blush

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

We are fans of the CoverGirl TRUblend line, which is a line of cosmetics that adjust to go with your skin tone. Once you know what your foundation is, there are corresponding concealers, pressed powders, and blushes marked with the same number as your foundation. It eliminates the amount of time many of us spend in the drugstore aisle staring at products and trying to figure out the right shades. TRUcheeks blush has a palette of 3 complementary colors that are meant to be mixed to get the perfect shade you want. However, if you’re like us and like a contoured look, you can you use the lightest color to highlight your cheek bones, the mid-color for the apples of your cheeks, and the darkest color for the hollow of your cheek.

Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain and Balm

Monday, February 7th, 2011

If you hate the feeling of wearing lipstick but still want color you would probably like Revlon’s Just Bitten Lipstain and Balm. The feel is as if you’re just wearing chapstick, and the color lasts all day long. The stain looks great and lets you have color without looking too ‘done’. You apply the stain first and give it some time for the color to set. Then you apply the balm, which contains Vitamin C. Our favorite part about this is that it’s goof-proof – no leaving lipstick on cups or worrying about it smearing after eating. There are ten different shades so you can choose how natural you want to make your look. Our personal favorite was Beloved, which is a very flattering shade of berry.

Revlon Top Speed Nail Enamel

Friday, February 4th, 2011

Painting your nails takes no time at all but waiting for them to dry can really be a drag. We tried Revlon’s Top Speed Nail Enamel, which promises to dry in 60 seconds, and thought it was a great formula. With a base coat and two coats with polish (doesn’t everyone use two coats?) it took longer than one minute to properly dry. But the polish definitely set in record time. The colors in this line of nail polish are very rich. Our favorite was Jelly, which is a vibrant pink shade.

L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Compact Makeup

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

Talc is a filler that is in a great deal of cosmetic products. However, many women are allergic to talc and dermatologists usually recommend talc-free products. It should be easy to find talc-free makeup in a drug-store but it’s actually not! In a search for talc-free makeup we found L’Oreal’s True Match Super-Blendable Compact Makeup which has no fillers and is oil free! This product seamlessly blends with your skin and is said to have light to medium coverage. However, we found it to give a medium to heavy coverage with layering. What we liked the most about this makeup is that even with layering it feels pretty light. It also has a SPF 17 to help protect your skin from sun damage. There are 18 shades to choose from in warm, neutral, and cool tones.

Maybelline Express Finish 50 Second Nail Color

Monday, January 10th, 2011

Have you ever tried a quick drying nail polish only to discover that it chips faster than regular nail polishes? We thought the same thing would happen with Maybelline’s Express Finish 50 Second Nail Color but it actually lasted for days! We loved that it was quick drying, however when we did our regular 2 coats it certainly took longer than 50 seconds to dry. We tried a neutral color first, next we will try a darker color to see if we can still get days of chip-free color.
