Clearasil DailyClear Daily Face Wash
Friday, January 7th, 2011
Cleansers for acne-prone skin tend to give the deepest cleaning, however they usually contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. If you don’t have acne but still want a very deep clean, we recommend Clearasil DailyClear Daily Face Wash. It doesn’t have acne fighting ingredients which can dry out skin, but it thoroughly gets rid of all makeup and dirt. We also liked that this face wash contains glycerin and aloe, which leaves your skin soft and moisturized. Gentle cleansers are great, but for those of us who like to wear makeup the downside is that they are gentle on makeup as well. We find this product to be reminiscent of Clinique’s Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser, which is great but costs about three times more.

Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara
Thursday, December 16th, 2010
With Latisse, the first prescription only product to enhance eyelash growth, on the market many cosmetic companies are scrambling to create mascaras that are actually good for eyelashes. Revlon’s Grow Luscious Mascara conditions eyelashes and helps them grow, while making them appear longer and fuller instantly. We tried this one, and although it doesn’t give the dramatic results of Maybelline’s XXL Pro Extensions, the thick brush made the most of our lashes in a more natural way. After one week our lashes seemed fuller. We also love that this formula doesn’t get clumpy.

L’Oreal Paris Age-Reversing Makeup
Friday, December 3rd, 2010
We were intrigued by the L’Oreal Paris USA Visible Lift Serum Absolute Advanced Age-Reversing Makeup since it seemed to have more anti-aging focus than any other foundation in the drugstore. It contains an age-reversing serum with 5 ingredients that includes Pro-Retinol A and Vitamin C. It promises to ‘make skin smoother, firmer, brighter, even and flawless’. What we loved the most about this product is that it gave full coverage without settling into lines. However, we would not recommend this for anyone with sensitive or oily skin. The retinol can be an irritant for some people.

L’Oreal Paris True Match Naturale Blush
Monday, November 22nd, 2010
Attention women with sensitive skin! L’Oreal Paris has a new blush, True Match Naturale that is 100% preservative free, talc-free, and fragrance free. And since it’s a mineral makeup, it’s actually good for your skin. We really liked that it came with a nice and soft blush brush which saves room in your makeup bag. We did notice that their blush shades come off way lighter than they appear in the container. So you might want to go darker than you usually do. There is also a lot of shimmer in this blush so if you like a matte finish this blush might not be for you.

Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Lightweight UV-Lotion
Tuesday, November 16th, 2010
Since our favorite moisturizer is now Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream we were eager to try another product from the same line – Moisture Rescue Lightweight UV-Lotion. Since it is agreed upon that UV rays cause the majority of skin damage and aging, we were drawn to the fact that this lotion also has an SPF of 15. Like the gel cream, this product promises to lock in moisture for 24 hours and contains grape water extract (anti-oxidant) and apple water extract (protects against moisture loss). However, although this lotion is meant to be worn during the day, we preferred to use it as a nighttime moisturizer instead. For our combination skin it was a little too greasy for day time wear but perfect for taking care of dry patches without clogging pores at night. If your skin is very dry, you might like this one better. If you’re wondering which Garnier product to use for your skin, try their Product Advisor: http://www.garnierusa.com/_en/_us/nutritioniste/product_advisor/index.aspx#consultation

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner
Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010
It is rare that you get a really helpful beauty tip from makeup packaging, so we thought we’d share one we found on the package for Maybelline’s Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner. Step 2 says to “Glide brush in small strokes across lash line”. We tried that technique instead of doing one solid line and we were able to replicate the winged eyeliner in the picture perfectly. This gel eyeliner comes with the brush that you need to line your eyes, and it’s both smudgeproof and waterproof. We would suggest this product if you would like a really intense look. If you like your eyeliner to be more subtle or would like a finer line, we suggest Maybelline’s Line Stiletto Ultimate Precision Liquid Eyeliner.
