Sally Hansen Continuous Treatment Hardening Formula

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Having weak or brittle nails can be pretty frustrating. Your choices are getting fake nails (which can add up in cost) or constantly redoing your nails. To combat the problem the first thing you want to do is make sure you’re getting the right nutrition. Try biotin supplements to make your nails grow and Ginkgo biloba to improve circulation in your hands to stimulate nail growth. So what can you do for polish? We tried Sally Hansen’s Continuous Treatment Hardening Formula. What we were most impressed by is how long the base coat worked. If you have weak nails you know that with most nail strengtheners, your nails are only ‘strong’ for a day or so before they go back to the way they were. With this Continuous Treatment Hardening Formula, calcium and coral work to bond the layers of your nails together for 10 days – it contains a time release technology. Although this formula didn’t quite stop our nails from chipping or tearing completely, we did notice that it happened a lot less and we were able to grow our nails longer. In our opinion, this is Sally Hansen’s best nail strengthener yet.

Noxzema Hair Minimizing Shave Gel

Monday, October 25th, 2010

One of our favorite products of all time was Aveeno’s Positively Smooth Shave Gel. When Aveeno discontinued it, we started searching for a substitute. Similar to Aveeno’s product, Noxzema’s Hair Minimizing Shave Gel promises to help reduce shaving frequency. While Aveeno’s shave gel used Soy, Noxzema uses Capislow to minimize hair growth. After using Noxzema for a week, we noticed our legs were smoother, and the Vitamin E and Aloe Vera helped avoid razor burn and cuts. This shave gel has a great cucumber and melon scent – we are hoping they also come out with a version for sensitive skin with Capislow as well!

*11/11/10 Update* Aveeno sent us an email saying that their shave gels are back! They made some changes to their packaging and are now back in stores.

Almay Smart Shade Anti-Aging Makeup

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Many foundations are great at hiding wrinkles, but as the day progresses the foundation starts to settle in fine lines and wrinkles, which does more emphasizing than hiding. A great alternative is Almay’s Smart Shade Anti-Aging Makeup. This is a sheer to medium coverage foundation that not only won’t settle in fine lines, it actually improves their appearance. We liked the matte finish of this foundation and the lightweight feel. The product goes on white, and then transforms to a shade that matches your skin tone. Women who need darker shades may be disappointed, this product only comes in Light, Light Medium, and Medium. Also, we don’t recommend this product if you like full coverage.

SJ Creations Coconut Moisturizing Body Butter

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

For people with excessively dry skin, body butter can be a very effective solution. The tricky part is that many quality body butters cost significantly more than body creams or lotions. At first we were suspicious of the $5.99 price tag, but we really liked SJ Creations’ Coconut Moisturizing Body Butter. It has shea butter (which is a must for dry skin), and as a bonus it also has aloe vera. If the scent of coconut is not your thing, they also have the same body butter in Olive, Cocoa Butter, and Soy.

Maybelline Line Stiletto Ultimate Precision Liquid Eyeliner

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

The trend in all the fashion magazines is wing tipped eyeliner, similar to the look of the Hollywood stars in the 1950’s. A great way to get this look is to use Maybelline’s Line Stiletto Ultimate Precision Liquid Eyeliner. A word of warning, this is an eyeliner that requires more skill than most. If you have a hard time doing perfect lines, we suggest using a smudge brush to even it out. We liked that this eyeliner went on smooth and didn’t dry faster than we could fix mistakes, as is the case with a lot of liquid eyeliners.

Maybelline Expert Wear Eye Shadow Quad

Monday, October 4th, 2010

There is a reason why ‘how to do a smoky eye’ articles are published almost every month in fashion magazines. It’s really not an easy look to do. Maybelline took the guess work out of the smoky eye look with a quad (200 smokes) of easily blendable shadows that are marked with where you put the colors. Our biggest problem with inexpensive shadows is that the color goes on unevenly, making your eye look more so injured than smoky. However, what we loved the most was the quality of these shadows, even the darkest color went on evenly and blended well. With this we were able to achieve model worthy eye shadow looks in no time!

Nivea Hydrating Shower Gel

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

If you’re very particular about your body wash and would rather shop for it at the mall then a drug store, you would like Nivea’s Hydrating Shower Gel. We tried it in Touch of Honeydew and the smell is amazing. It also has the unique feature of rinsing clean but moisturizing at the same time. The moisture is from the sunflower pearls, which are beads in the shower gel that release an extra dose of moisturizing oil.
