Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Oil Controlling Towelettes

Wednesday, September 18th, 2013

If you have extremely oily skin, there are a lot of options to choose from. What stood out for us with Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Oil Controlling Towelettes was that it strong without being harsh. It removes all of the oil from your skin just as well as the products with harsh chemicals, but you don’t have to worry about irritation. Of course, these towelettes contain witch hazel which is an age-old natural skincare ingredient. But it also includes aloe. When you use these towelettes your skin will feel extremely clean, and it helps fight oil for the rest of the day. If you have combination skin, only use this product on the t-zone, it will be too drying for the rest of your face. Although it’s the most gentle product of its kind that we tried, it was drying on normal skin. Also although they can remove makeup, we don’t suggest using these on the eye area. Our tester with oily skin however was pleased with the results. And since the towelettes are individually wrapped, they’re easy keep on hand to avoid looking shiny as the day goes on.

L’Oreal Youth Code Texture Perfector Serum Concentrate

Monday, September 9th, 2013

erase3We have no idea what 2%LR2412 is, but we know that it’s the key ingredient in L’Oreal’s new Youth Code Texture Perfector, which improves skin texture, pores, and fine lines (not so much for deep wrinkles). We tried this product and thought it worked pretty well. And while we don’t think it’s ideal for very sensitive skin, it has some great features. You see results fairly quickly and it’s a great first step for flawless skin before moisturizer and foundation. If you have very dry skin, be sure to use a very emollient moisturizer over this serum.

DermaSilk® 1 Minute Collagen Lift

Thursday, September 5th, 2013

laDermaSilk 1 Minute Collagen Lift has the advantage of giving instant gratification. In just one minute, it’s supposed to smooth wrinkles. The good news is that did work. The bad news is that the effect is temporary. To maintain the effect, you need to reapply every 4 to 6 hours. The product itself is sticky and tacky to the touch, so we don’t recommend using it underneath foundation. We recommend this product for days when you don’t want to wear makeup but still want the look of great skin.

Tone Moisturizing Cocoa Butter Body Wash

Friday, August 30th, 2013

erase3Everyone knows that cocoa butter is great for the skin. However, with such a distinct smell if you don’t care for it, it’s hard to ignore. Tone’s Moisturizing Cocoa Butter Body Wash is infused with mango, papaya, and Vitamin E, so it has a pleasant, fruity fragrance. We recommend this for people who don’t like the smell of cocoa butter but want its benefits. This body wash has a thick consistency, but it’s not quite as creamy as some moisturizing body washes such as Dove Nutrium. It lathers and rinses well and it doesn’t leave your skin dry at all. However, if you’re skin is extremely dry you may want a richer body wash.

Tip: Want to make a homemade body scrub? Try using 1 cup of full fat plain yogurt, ½ a cucumber, and 2 tablespoons of sea salt. Rub the mixture on dry skin before your shower to soothe and exfoliate at the same time!

Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Soothing Moisturizer

Monday, August 26th, 2013

eraseSince we’re big fans of Neutrogena’s Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser, we decided to try their Ultra Gentle Soothing Moisturizer. While the cleanser was way more impressive, the Ultra Gentle Soothing moisturizer was pretty good. Similar to Aveeno facial moisturizer, it contains Feverfew to calm down the skin. It’s not fragrance free, but they’ve managed to include a fragrance that is easy on sensitive skin. Texture wise, it is a creamy lotion that goes on very smoothly and works great under foundation. As promised, Ultra Gentle Soothing Moisturizer is completely non-irritating and really improves the skin hydration. However it would be nice if there were an option without SPF for those with skin irritated by sunscreen. We think it’s most suitable for dry to combination skin. If you have oily skin, the best moisturizer we’ve tried so far is Olay Long Live Satin Finish Moisture Lotion.

Tip: Do you have sensitive skin? Try using a gentle, fragrance free detergent and fabric softener. Even a great skincare regimen can be defeated by harsh chemicals left behind on your washcloths.
