Burt’s Bees Lip Gloss

Monday, May 27th, 2013

laMany lip glosses seem to be the same but we tried Burt’s Bees Lip Gloss since it’s made with natural ingredients. The color goes on very sheer, so anyone can wear even their darkest shades. We found that a great use for this lip gloss is to go under any long wear lipsticks that are drying. It’s lightweight enough that you’ll feel comfortable laying underneath other products. This lip gloss is made of natural ingredients but also looks very natural in color on. We tried the evening glow shade and liked that it added color but still looked natural. Burt’s Bees lip gloss is more for moisturizing, so you can’t wear it by itself for noticeable color.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation

Thursday, May 23rd, 2013

erase3The problem with most of the long wear foundations that we’ve tried is that they’re drying, so they’re not suitable for everyday use. We tried Bobbi Brown’s new long-wear even finish foundation and didn’t see dry skin, even after 3 weeks of daily use. What’s really surprising is that this product contains glycerin and shea butter for moisture but retains a lightweight feel. Retailing at around $58, it also contains vitamins C and E and an SPF of 15. However, most experts claim that you would have to wear an unnatural amount of foundation to get the SPF benefit claimed on makeup. The coverage is great, the makeup lasts, and there’s a great selection of colors. However, if you’d like even more coverage and marathon wear that withstands heat and humidity, we still think Estee Lauder’s Double Wear is the best for special occasions (it’s too drying for everyday).

Travalo Travel Atomizer

Friday, May 10th, 2013

erase3When you travel a lot, taking a little bit of home with you makes all the difference. We tried the Travel Atomizer sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and really liked it. It’s a lipstick sized atomizer that you can fill with your favorite scent. You don’t have to worry about going over the limit with liquids when flying, or take the risk of traveling with an entire expensive perfume bottle. The best part about it is that you don’t have to touch the fragrance or do a messy transfer. You just press the atomizer firmly on the top of your perfume bottle and press it. If you’re unsure the salesperson will fill it for you so you can see how it works. Ingenious! To Also, a lot of celebrities mention that they use Diptyque or other high end candles to make their hotel rooms smell like the want it to. For example, Karl Lagerfield and Diddy are said to like to use them (you can get diptyque candles from Beautique)

Tip: Keep a travel toiletry bag stocked with your travel sized favorites so whenever you need to go somewhere, you don’t have to ponder about what products to pack.

Aveeno Pure Renewal Dry Shampoo

Sunday, April 28th, 2013

erase3Dry Shampoo is a great way to freshen up hair and absorb extra oil. We tried Aveeno’s Pure Renewal Dry Shampoo and loved the clean scent.  Seaweed Extract is what makes this dry shampoo different, and it helps with manageability. If you’re hair colored don’t worry, the formula is sulfate free. Pure Renewal Dry Shampoo is also supposed to remove excess oil to boost volume. However, we found it lacking in that area. We think the best use for this product is for giving texture and refreshing hair.

Seventh Generation Lavender Moisturizing Lotion

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

erase2If you like natural products you’re probably already familiar with the Seventh Generation brand, which now has personal care products. We tried their Lavender Moisturizing Lotion which is 95% plant based. This lotion has a nice consistency and moisturizes well. If you apply a lot it can feel a bit heavy, but we love the idea of using a moisturizer without all the chemicals.
