My Konjac Sponge All Natural Fiber Bamboo Charcoal Facial Sponge

Saturday, February 8th, 2014

erase4It’s not often that there are big innovations in facial cleansers. However, recently there has been a new fad with cleansing sponges made 100% pure Konjac plant root. There are plenty of brands that sell them. We tried the All Natural Fiber Bamboo Charcoal Facial Sponge by My Konjac Sponge. It also has added natural bamboo charcoal, which contains activated carbon, minerals, and anti-oxidants which combat acne-causing bacteria. Environmentalists will love that since this sponge is made of plant root, it’s 100% biodegradable. The coolest thing about this sponge is its texture. It almost feels like jell-o to the touch. Since hospitals use charcoal to draw toxins from your stomach from poisoning, it stands to reason that charcoal would be great at drawing impurities from the skin. We found that this sponge gives a great clean, and with continued use you see a reduction in blemishes in about four days. The interesting thing about the Konjac sponge is that you can use it with or without cleanser. One tester with acne found that the sponge is good for a few weeks without cleanser, but then blemishes started returning. After using cleanser on the sponge, it became effective again. Another tester with sensitive combination skin found the sponge to be perfectly gentle on the skin and a very effective cleanser but too drying to use twice a day. Once was enough. There is also no expiration date on these sponges or recommended time to use before you purchase another one. So far, we know that the sponge is good for at least a few months and counting.

Tip: Just like anything else you put on your skin, this sponge must be kept dry in between washings to keep it fresh and germ free.

Jane Iredale Balance Antioxidant Hydration Spray

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012

Some products are worth shopping for online. We purchased Jane Iredale Hydration Spray from http://www.dermstore.com/ and liked the product as well as our shopping experience. Not only was the shipping free, but we also got 2 free beauty products to try (a full sized lip balm and a travel anti-aging serum). Getting a gift with purchase every time you shop is ingenious! But back to the product itself, we purchased Jane Iredale’s Balance Antioxidant Hydrating Spray to get rid of summer greasiness without getting dry skin. This spray has seaweed (which helps regulate oil production), green tea, and calming ingredients that nourish the skin and neutralize free radicals. The spray feels incredibly refreshing and can be used to set mineral makeup. We loved the citrusy scent and while we felt that this spray conditioned on our skin, we were disappointed that it didn’t result in a dramatic reduction in oil. So if you have very acne prone or greasy skin, you may want to look for something stronger. On the other hand, we strongly recommend this if you have sensitive skin as it’s very calming and non-irritating. We tried using it under other brands of makeup, and found that you get a much better result by using it for its intended purpose – to set mineral makeup.

AcneFree 1 Hour Pimple Patches Kit

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

If a blemish magically appears in the morning just in time to ruin your day, you can try University Medical’s AcneFree 1 Hour Pimple Patches Kit. At first we thought that this was just a glorified version of placing acne medication on a band-aid and putting it on your face. However, these patches actually have neat technology. The patches contain battery cells that activate when combined with the Benzoyl Peroxide (a top acne fighting ingredient). The medication then becomes micro-charges; allowing it to penetrate deep into the skin faster. Our verdict? The patch ‘reduces pimple size, redness, and duration’ as promised. But don’t expect a miracle; it won’t completely disappear after one hour!

Clearasil StayClear Skin Perfecting Wash

Monday, December 28th, 2009

eraseWhen people are searching for a gentle cleanser, they usually don’t think to go to product lines that are targeted to teens with acne. However, Clearasil’s StayClear Skin Perfecting Wash is the gentlest exfoliator we’ve ever tried. The microbeads are extremely small and rounded, so you don’t have to worry about irritating your skin. Salicylic acid can be drying, but this creamy face wash also contains moisturizing ingredients so your skin can be acne free AND soft. Since this product is gentle enough for everyday use, this is our new daily face wash (luckily the bottle has a generous amount). This particular face wash also removed makeup off better than the other Clearasil face washes we’ve tried.

Zapzyt Acne Wash

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

eraseWhen visiting the skin care aisle any drug store, you’ll see that you have to choose between mild cleansers and harsh products for acne. We were on the hunt for something that would destroy acne, but not our skin in the process, and came across Zapzyt Acne Wash.
Zapzyt is a line of products geared toward eliminating acne (hence the name), and they are so confident about their product that they offer a money back guarantee. We were excited to see that Zapzyt Acne Wash contains skin soothing ingredients like aloe and chamomile. Using cleansers with salicylic acid on a daily basis can take a toll on those of us with sensitive skin…but we found that we were able to keep using it without any irritation.
Zapzyt products are available at about every drug store in the nation, if you’d like to give it a try check out http://zapzyt.com/products/ to get a coupon for $2.00 of any Zapzyt product.
