Since we tried Garnier Clean + Purifying Foam Cleanser and liked it, we wanted to try the cleanser for dry skin – Garnier Clean+ Smoothing Cream Cleanser. Fortunately, our tester with dry skin liked this cleanser as much as our tester with combination skin liked the Purifying Foam Cleanser. The Smoothing Cream Cleanser is great for dry skin since it has jojoba and macadamia oils. As you may already know, oil doesn’t always mean pore clogging. Including oil in this cleanser was ingenious because the oils dissolve your makeup. Those of you with dry skin know that cleansers for dry skin are typically gentle, and unfortunately gentle on makeup removal. You’ll like how it feels to get a thorough cleansing without stripping your skin. After washing dry skin, you have to reach immediately for moisturizer before your skin starts feeling tight. Smoothing Cream Cleanser gives you more time and leaves your skin feeling comfortable. Also, when you use water you’ll get a good lather, which is pretty unique for a creamy cleanser. The scent of this product (like all Garnier products) is refreshing, but we wonder if it may be too heavily fragranced for sensitive skin.
Tip: If you have dry skin, you know how important it is to drink enough water. But you can take it a step further and eat foods that are good for your skin as well. Try stocking up on salmon and avocado. Both are helpful to skin lipid layers!

There aren’t many intense nighttime moisturizers that claim to relieve extreme dryness without a greasy feel. We tried Neutrogena’s Deep Moisture Night Cream, and considering the light texture, it didn’t seem like it would be enough for our tester with dry skin. On the box, it says that Deep Moisture Night Cream is clinically proven to dramatically increase skin’s moisture level in just 1 week. If you have very dry skin, this will be a unique experience for you. It’s a lighter moisturizer, but it’s just as powerful at combating dryness as a heavy cream. The more you use it, the more you’ll feel like you don’t need it. However, the first couple of days are not that impressive at all. This product really gets to work after several days of use. No more flaking and plumper skin. So in sum, if you need an immediate quick fix this product isn’t the best choice. But if you’re willing to wait a week or longer, you’ll see an amazing improvement in your skin. To see more of our posts about Neutrogena, click here.

We think any lotion with shea butter is worth trying. Nivea Smooth Sensation Body Lotion contains shea butter and something they call Hydra IQ Technology, which is said to support the skin’s hydration network. Considering it has shea butter, the lotion is lighter than we expected. This is a great if you don’t like greasy lotions, but is a con if you have extremely dry skin and need a thick lotion. On a tester with dry skin, this product worked great. It also has a long-lasting scent, which is something Nivea doesn’t mention. It’s a pleasant, light scent, but it lasts all day.
Tip: Want to get the most out of your lotion?. Before you get in the shower, exfoliate dry skin with a homemade body scrub mixture with half a grated cucumber, 2 tablespoons of salt, and 1 cup of full-fat plain yogurt.

Everyone knows that cocoa butter is great for the skin. However, with such a distinct smell if you don’t care for it, it’s hard to ignore. Tone’s Moisturizing Cocoa Butter Body Wash is infused with mango, papaya, and Vitamin E, so it has a pleasant, fruity fragrance. We recommend this for people who don’t like the smell of cocoa butter but want its benefits. This body wash has a thick consistency, but it’s not quite as creamy as some moisturizing body washes such as Dove Nutrium. It lathers and rinses well and it doesn’t leave your skin dry at all. However, if you’re skin is extremely dry you may want a richer body wash.
Tip: Want to make a homemade body scrub? Try using 1 cup of full fat plain yogurt, ½ a cucumber, and 2 tablespoons of sea salt. Rub the mixture on dry skin before your shower to soothe and exfoliate at the same time!

Cocoa butter has always been a go to ingredient for people with very dry skin. Vaseline has just introduced their Total Moisture Cocoa Radiant Lotion, which has cocoa butter as well as ingredients to make the moisture go deeper than the outer layer of skin. This is a bit lighter than other cocoa butter body treatments, such as those by Palmer. However, we were pleased to see that the lotion gave long lasting moisture. We weren’t huge fans of the scent, but this is an excellent formula for those who want a lot of moisture without a heavy feel. We’re also pretty excited to try their newest product – Spray & Go Moisturizer.
Tip: If you have extremely dry skin and lotion doesn’t seem to do the trick, try putting on lotion and then use a light layer of gel oil on top. The oil will keep all the moisture from evaporating from your skin.
