‘Easy smoky eyes’ is always a plus when you’re buying eyeshadow. We tried CoverGirl’s Smokyshadowblast in bronze fire to do a smoky eye in brown and champagne hues The shadow is on a stick, which is very unique. The consistency is creamy and has a more shiny finish than a regular eye shadow. Because it’s a creamy shadow, if you have oily eyelids it may not stay (you’ll need a primer). We easily achieved a smoky look, making this product perfect if you don’t have much time to do your makeup in the morning. However, if you want your eyes to look like Drew’s in the ad, you’ll need to put in a lot more work than the simple instructions on the back of the package.

After seeing the ads for L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeshadow, we definitely wanted to try it. We experimented with their Midnight Blue shade. We found that true to its promise, this shadow lasts all day and doesn’t crease or fade. But when you first put on the eyeshadow, it doesn’t look like the ads with one application. In order to get that intense look, you need about three layers. On the upside, this shadow adheres very well to the skin. But on the downside, it stays put so much it’s a little harder to blend. We found that this eyeshadow works really well with silver shadow on the lid to give the look some dimension.

If you have brown or hazel eyes this one is for you! We tried Rimmel London’s Glam Eye Shadow Trio in Tempting and loved how exotic it made our eyes look. This formula is highly blendable, a.k.a. hard to mess up! The pigments are true to the palette as well, so you don’t have to use a bunch of eyeshadow to get the look you want. This is a great selection of greens, we can’t wait to try their other palettes.
Tip: For a more professional look, use an eyeshadow brush to apply instead of the sponge applicator that comes with the Eye Shadow Trio.

The smoky eye look doesn’t always have to be gray and black eyeshadow. With Revlon’s CustomEyes Shadow & Liner palette in Smoky Sexy, you can get a smoky look with blues and grays. This palette has four eyeshadows and a fifth color that you can use as eyeliner. We really liked the bright take on smoky eyes for the summer. However, since these are vibrant blue hues, it will look more tame if you take the pointed end of the applicator and use the black shade to frame the eye. These shadows are not highly pigmented, so if you’re looking for more oomph try dampening the sponge applicator that comes with the set before applying your eyeshadow.

L’Oreal has taken the concept of ‘goof-proof’ to a different level with their new Studio Secrets The One Sweep Eye Shadow. If you’re not good with makeup or if you don’t have very much time in the morning this definitely works. We tried the 819 Natural for All Eyes palette and loved it. It’s very natural looking so it’s perfect for work or an interview. However, if you love a dramatic look, you may want to try their other shadow lines.
