Almay Wake-Up Makeup

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

If you have dry skin you may shun powders. But Almay’s Wake-Up Makeup is a powder that is ironically hydrating. This mineral foundation uses technology to infuse encapsulated water in loose powder. The formula also contains cucumber, minerals, aloe vera, and green tea extracts to condition the skin. Best of all, this formula is talc-free, so your pores will be safe. We loved the feel of this powder (it has a cooling sensation upon application) and found it to be very similar to Revlon’s Color Stay Aqua Mineral Makeup. If you’re trying to decide between the two we would say choose Almay if you have sensitive or dry skin; and choose Revlon if oily skin is a concern and you want more staying power.

Contest of the Week – Revlon

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

We are still working hard to get you the beauty products you need for holiday parties! Once again we are giving away a Revlon product. This week, one lucky winner will receive Revlon PhotoReady Makeup. This is one of our favorite foundations. Although it gives complete and full coverage, it has a soft finish and feels lightweight. It also turns out very natural looking in photographs – you will be proud to post your Facebook photos! We really liked the pump dispenser on the bottle; it’s a lot more sanitary and easier to control how much you’re using. Revlon’s PhotoReady Makeup is also oil and fragrance free and has an SPF of 20. To win a bottle of your own, just comment below with your current favorite foundation.

One winner per week, winner will be chosen by 12/08/2010 and notified by email 12/15/2010. U.S. residents only.

WetnWild Intuitive Blend Shade Adjusting Foundation + Primer

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Lately we’ve noticed that WetnWild cosmetics has been churning out some really high quality products but at the same inexpensive prices. Our latest favorite is their Intuitive Blend Shade Adjusting Foundation + Primer. Priced at around $6, this is probably the most reasonably priced foundation you’ll ever buy! The foundation starts out white, then adjusts to match your skin color exactly. You don’t have to spend too much time in the store deciding what your color is – there are 4 color ranges to choose from (Fair, Light, Medium, and Tan). What we liked the most about this foundation is that it delivered a matte finish with natural looking coverage, which is a combination that is hard to find.

Iman Cream to Powder Foundation

Monday, April 12th, 2010

It is often hard to find full coverage foundation or powder in darker shades. But the Iman Cosmetics Cream to Powder Foundation and Second to None Semi-Loose Powder are high in quality AND colors to choose from. The Cream to Powder Foundation gives you full coverage, and is excellent for hiding dark spots. The Powder is both mineral and blended with corn silk and silk powder to combat oil. We loved that at the end of the day our oily T-Zone was still kept in check. However, we were most impressed with how the powder is dispensed. With a twist, you get a fresh amount of powder. And this way it’s easier to control how much you load on your brush. Both of these products can be used alone, but if you want a very ‘made-up’ look, we suggest using the foundation and then doing a light dusting of the Powder.
Tip: If you have very oily skin, look for Kaolin when shopping for face masks. Kaolin is a natural clay from Mount Kaolin in China that has been used for many years to draw out impurities and oil from the skin.

CoverGirl Simply Ageless Foundation

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

eraseFor seriously aging or dry skin, we have found the real deal. CoverGirl Simply Ageless Foundation goes on smoothly just as all foundations do for dry skin. But the difference is that it doesn’t become trapped in lines, it stays suspended over your skin so your makeup looks like it’s just been applied all day. This foundation also contains a healthy dose of Olay Regenerist Serum and an SPF of 22, so the condition of your skin will improve as time goes on. We’re excited to know that we can get a product of this quality for aging skin without going to a department store.

Yves Rocher Brush-on Illuminator

Monday, February 8th, 2010

eraseWhile we’re thankful that we can use foundation to cover up our imperfections, we were  searching for something that would cover and help our skin at the same time. We love Yves Rocher’s Brush-on Illuminator. This foundation gives a natural, radiant finish.  It contains almond oil to smooth the skin, apricot oil to hydrate, and cornflower water to soften. The retractable brush allows for easy application. We recommend this for women who like a natural look, this product gives light to medium coverage
