Almay Wake-Up Makeup
Tuesday, April 19th, 2011
If you have dry skin you may shun powders. But Almay’s Wake-Up Makeup is a powder that is ironically hydrating. This mineral foundation uses technology to infuse encapsulated water in loose powder. The formula also contains cucumber, minerals, aloe vera, and green tea extracts to condition the skin. Best of all, this formula is talc-free, so your pores will be safe. We loved the feel of this powder (it has a cooling sensation upon application) and found it to be very similar to Revlon’s Color Stay Aqua Mineral Makeup. If you’re trying to decide between the two we would say choose Almay if you have sensitive or dry skin; and choose Revlon if oily skin is a concern and you want more staying power.

Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral Makeup
Thursday, April 7th, 2011
If you’re into technology in cosmetics, you’ll like Revlon’s ColorStay Aqua Mineral Makeup. The powder actually has the feel of water when applied to the skin! For the upcoming hot months, the cooling sensation is welcome. This product is made with coconut water and no oil, so you can be shine-free. As an added plus, ColorStay Aqua Mineral Makeup has an SPF13 and is fragrance-free. We loved that the product lasts all day, but the downside is that there are only 8 shades available

L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail Powder
Monday, March 21st, 2011
If you have oily skin the warmer weather is not such a good thing! To keep the shine at bay, L’Oreal’s Infallible Never Fail Powder promises to help ‘you stay shine free all day’ and promises 16 hour wear. We gave it the ultimate try out – a work out at the gym. After forty five minutes we still had a matte finish. It’s also nice that you can dampen the cosmetic sponge and use with the powder if you want a heavier, foundation-like coverage. However, since there are only 6 shades available we prefer to use it in a powder form (there is more leeway for color matching with powder). L’Oreal’s Infallible Never Fail Powder has an SPF 20 sunscreen.

CoverGirl TRUblend Microminerals Finishing Veil
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010
For those of us with imperfect complexions, it’s hard to create a flawless look if you have to be sparing with your makeup because it’s not your exact color. With TRUblend Microminerals Finishing Veil you can pile it on – it has colorspheres that actually merge with your skin and imitate your skin color. We have no idea how that works, but we definitely enjoy the results. If you really struggle in drugstores finding a color that works for you, you can go to the CoverGirl Website to get color matched.

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009
Mineral makeup has a ton of benefits, but it definitely has room for improvement in the available selection of shades. If you can’t find the perfect for shade for your skin but want the benefits of mineral powder, you may want to try the WetnWild BeautyBenefits Fresh Effects Mineral Veil in the translucent shade.
This loose powder is for all skin types. It hides shine in your oily areas but also minimizes the appearance of lines and pores. The powder has a fine shimmer that translates to a radiant glow when applied to the skin. It’s also fragrance free and non irritating. We also give WetnWild a thumbs up for the elegant packaging, it’s always fun to have sophisticated looking makeup.

Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Powder Foundation Compact
Friday, October 16th, 2009
When you have very oily skin powder foundation stops the grease fest in its tracks. We liked the Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Powder Foundation Compact because of its light feel and multiple benefits. The powder has an SPF 20 and antioxidants to protect your skin from aging. It’s also fragrance and oil free. You can get sheer to medium coverage with this powder. We liked using the sponge applicator, but for full coverage we took a big powder brush and used it to set our liquid foundation.
