Blavia Skincare – Contour Collection

Monday, February 25th, 2013

erase3Recently, we tried the Blavia Contour Collection from the new brand Blavia Skincare. The premise behind this collection is to prevent skin aging – not just treat it. Even better, this line is for the body, which is unique since most anti-aging lines are for the face. The Contour Collection has Marine Collagen, Vitamins A, B, C, and E, and antioxidants from Green Tea and Grape Seed extracts.  This collection is called Contour as it boosts natural collagen production and strengthens the skins natural barrier, providing a healthier contour.

Contour Shower Gel: Like the other products in the Contour Collection, this gel has a light, fresh fragrance. It’s clean-rinsing and lathers very well.

Contour Scrub: If you want your moisturizer to work well, you need to get rid of dead skin cells. This scrub is for the entire body, but it’s very gentle. The exfoliating particles are mild enough where you could use it every day. This is especially great for people whose skin can’t tolerate harsh exfoliants.

Contour Moisturizer: This is a lightweight moisturizer that you will love if greasy lotions tend to bother you. We think that this moisturizer will especially be in demand during the summer, when thick lotions aren’t as necessary. However, if you have extremely dry skin this lotion may not be heavy enough for you.

After using all three products together we found that our skin felt a lot softer and healthier overall. It’s hard to tell if a product is preventing aging or not, but there have been many studies that show that antioxidants are key in preventing environmental and sun damage (the biggest contributors to aging skin).

Make Up Forever Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

erase3When you have combination skin, you need a mattifying foundation so you don’t look greasy, but not all foundations for oily skin are suitable as they have ingredients that can be drying. We tried Make Up Forever Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation because it controls oil without potentially irritating ingredients like salicylic acid. Mat Velvet + uses amino acid coated pigments and contains wheat amidon complex. The silicone in the formula evaporates, leaving behind oil-free makeup. This foundation gives medium coverage, or full coverage if you add another layer. We loved the lightweight feel and that it didn’t dry out our skin, but by itself it did not stop shine for the entire day (however the matte looked lasted for several hours). We recommend this for everyday use for those with combination skin. If you need all day shine control or have very oily skin we suggest Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Foundation.

Mustela Dermo-Pediatrics Stelatopia Moisturizing Cream

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

erase2The winter months can be particularly difficult for those with eczema. We tried Mustela’s Stelatopia Moisturizing Cream, which is a fragrance, colorant, and paraben free moisturizer. It helps skin by restoring natural lipids and is fine to use in conjunction with eczema medication. One of our testers that suffer from eczema gave it a try and found it to be gentle and non-irritating as promised. However, it may be more appropriate to call this moisturizer a lotion instead of a cream because it’s not as thick as typical creams

Spa Sonic Skin Care System

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

eraseIt’s hard not to want the Clarisonic Cleansing System since it thoroughly cleanses and rejuvenates skin, and helps any skin care product penetrate more, and hence become more effective. However, at almost $200 it’s not very budget friendly. We tried Olay Pro-X Cleansing System and were pleased with the results, but the closest we found was the Spa Sonic Skin Care System. Priced at around $60, this waterproof system includes 2 facial brushes, 1 large body brush, 1 facial buffer, 1 pumice stone, and batteries (isn’t great when companies include the batteries?). We liked that the facial brushes were gentle on the skin as promised and the large body brush felt great. We were surprised at how effective the pumice stone worked. The pumice stone doesn’t feel very abrasive at all, but when combined with the polishing unit it really exfoliated! If you’re really your moisturizer, you’ll probably also like the facial buffer, which is a sponge that uses the sonic power for better application. The Spa Sonic Skin Care System did everything that the Clarisonic says it will, but at a much more reasonable price. If you’re looking to try it, Spa Sonic has informed us that tomorrow, the Spa Sonic System will be on a special sale for just $33 on Target.com.

Dr. LeWinn by Kinerase Lift & Resculpt Serum XK

Saturday, January 26th, 2013

eraseMany articles about effective anti-age ingredients agree that hyaluronic acid is on the top of the list. So we tried Dr. LeWinn by Kinerase Lift & Resculpt Serum XK, which has hyaluronic acid as the chief ingredient as well as other ingredients like kinetin to stimulate collagen. This product claims to give a more defined jawline, improve contours, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. What we loved the most about this product is that it’s non-irritating, which is hard to find in strong anti-age treatments. We thought that this serum worked as promised, with the exception of giving a more defined jawline. We didn’t see much improvement in that area.
