If you have sensitive skin, a lot of the ingredients used to even skin tone may be too harsh. We tried Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer, which also has an SPF 15. With soy and light diffusers, this lotion is supposed to help with blotchiness and dull skin. This moisturized really well, and actually may be a little too much for those with oily skin to use during the day. It did a really great job at evening skin tone, but didn’t make a huge impact on very dark spots. So if you have a moderate problem with blotchiness this product does the job, but you may need a more intense product for really bad hyperpigmentation.

There are many cleansers designed for sensitive skin that claim they thoroughly remove dirt and makeup, but after seeing a lot of magazine mentions for Neutrogena’s Ultra Gently Daily Cleanser we had to try it. This is one of the best cleansers we’ve tested. It’s very thorough and strikes the balance between cleansing and leaving moisture behind. We think Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser would be appropriate for any skin type. It’s a gel like cleanser that lathers well. After a week or so you see a difference – skin is calmer and healthier. And at 12 fluid oz, there’s a very generous amount to use so we love the value.
Tip: Using a lot of products with active ingredients can be irritating. If you’re using a topical acne treatment for example, it can be too much to use an acne fighting cleanser and moisturizer as well. Trying pairing this cleanser with your stronger products to give your skin a break.

If you have very sensitive skin, you’ve probably already discovered that oatmeal is a great soothing ingredient. We tried St. Ive’s Natural Soothing Body Lotion since not only does it contain oatmeal, it also has shea butter (a must for dry skin). This is probably one of the richest lotions available on the market. If you prefer thicker creams or body butter, this may still be worth a try. We really liked this formula – the lotion moisturized well and it didn’t irritate at all. The scent is fairly unisex. Although this lotion doesn’t have a nice perfume-like fragrance as other lotions that are more so marketed to women, we recognize that this is probably what also makes it so perfect for sensitive skin.
Tip: If you have very sensitive skin, try also buying detergent and fabric softener formulated for sensitive skin. With so much contact with your skin, clothes can also be a source of irritation.

Makeup wipes and facial cloths are a pretty convenient way to remove makeup. The latest we tried is Olay’s 2-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths for sensitive skin. The textured cloths are excellent for gentle exfoliation and removing makeup. You don’t have to make a lot of swipes to remove multiple layers of eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara. The only drawback that we found with this cloth is that although it’s for sensitive skin, it still stings if you get it in your eyes, so be careful!

Since we liked Simple’s Hydrating Light Moisturizer we thought we’d also try their Facial Wash. As promised, this facial wash is non-irritating and we couldn’t really detect any fragrance. Our sensitive skin seemed calmer and clearer in about 1 week. It has a pretty good lather so it cleans your skin but doesn’t strip your skin of moisture. On the other hand, if your skin is extremely dry, you might want to try a creamier cleanser. What’s great about this product is that it has few active ingredients, which lessens your chances of an allergic reaction. However, we didn’t see anywhere on the packaging that it’s paraben and phthalate free.
