There is a lot of attention on how to care for natural curls. However, there are still great new product being offered for relaxed hair. For instance, Dark and Lovely just came out with their 6 Week Anti-Reversion Cream Serum, which ‘prevents curls, kinks, and waves for up to 6 weeks in-between relaxing’. This product essentially works by blocking humidity, so however you heat styled your hair is how it will stay! We thought this product was effective and also let a tester try it with natural hair. Interestingly, it was more impactful as a product to prevent frizz on natural curls than on heat styled relaxed hair. Either way, it’s a pretty neat product. But the results aren’t quite as dramatic as what you see on the front of the box. It lessens the effect of humidity but doesn’t completely stop it. As long as your hair isn’t fine or thin, those with out of control frizz can benefit from this product regardless of ethnicity.
Tip: When you use relaxers blow drying AND flat ironing your hair is overkill. Try wrapping your hair and then using an old-fashioned hood dryer to dry your hair, then flat ironing for extra polish (with heat protectant spray of course).

A lot hair of products seem to have keratin now. We tried One ‘n Only Brazilian Tech Treatment with Pequi Oil. This contains keratin and pequi oil to eliminate frizz and condition hair. It’s a clear serum and you can smooth it on your hair before styling. We thought this product was amazing for softening and conditioning the hair. However, it has a pretty greasy texture so use it sparingly. Since it’s pretty heavy, we don’t recommend this for fine hair or if you have springy curls that get weighed down easily.
Tip: Frizzy hair? Do your best to not touch your hair throughout the day. The oils from your fingers only make matters worse.

We have no idea what 2%LR2412 is, but we know that it’s the key ingredient in L’Oreal’s new Youth Code Texture Perfector, which improves skin texture, pores, and fine lines (not so much for deep wrinkles). We tried this product and thought it worked pretty well. And while we don’t think it’s ideal for very sensitive skin, it has some great features. You see results fairly quickly and it’s a great first step for flawless skin before moisturizer and foundation. If you have very dry skin, be sure to use a very emollient moisturizer over this serum.

Women do drastic things in the everlasting quest for beauty, from getting a rhinoplasty to getting a face-lift, looking good can take some investment. For those not ready to go to a doctor and just want a little help, ingredients like hyaluronic acid, retinol, and hydroquinone are all proven to be effective for great looking skin. We recently tried Garnier’s Ultra-Lift 2-in-1 Wrinkle Reducer which contains retinol. Both a serum and a moisturizer, this product is said to bring a significant improvement in lines, wrinkles, and firmness within 2 weeks. Although Ultra-Lift 2-in-1 Wrinkle Reducer has a moisturizer, we still found the product to be a bit drying so we recommend using it with an oil such as Bio Oil if you have dry skin. We also didn’t like the product’s scent too much but it gets a high score on the important part – giving younger looking, healthy skin. Other pros were ease of absorption and its non-greasy texture. We also loved the product packaging, the helix structure of the cream looks cool, and it’s designed so you don’t miss a drop.

Many articles about effective anti-age ingredients agree that hyaluronic acid is on the top of the list. So we tried Dr. LeWinn by Kinerase Lift & Resculpt Serum XK, which has hyaluronic acid as the chief ingredient as well as other ingredients like kinetin to stimulate collagen. This product claims to give a more defined jawline, improve contours, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. What we loved the most about this product is that it’s non-irritating, which is hard to find in strong anti-age treatments. We thought that this serum worked as promised, with the exception of giving a more defined jawline. We didn’t see much improvement in that area.
