Dr. Mercola – Body Lotion and Body Wash

Saturday, July 26th, 2014

erase4There is a growing movement for all-natural products—and as more companies address it the quality of what’s out there improves all the time. We tried a lotion and a body wash from Dr. Mercola, which is a brand that offers all natural products. The thought behind the products makes sense, since our skin is our largest organ, it doesn’t make sense to put products on it that we wouldn’t want to ingest.

Dr. Mercola Organic Body Lotion Unscented – if you’re used to using regular body lotions, this one will be a real adjustment. Even unscented products have a masking fragrance, so with an unscented organic body lotion it’s a different scent all together. All you smell is a faint trace of the ingredients – chamomile, green tea leaf extract, shea butter, jojoba seed oil, and aloe vera. The lotion feels a bit sticky when you apply it – most likely because of the aloe vera. However, it absorbs pretty quickly and does just as good of a job at moisturizing as regular lotions. Which begs the question, why do personal care products have to have so many chemicals? If you have super dry skin, Dr. Mercola also offers a body butter.

Dr. Mercola Fresh Scent Body Wash – of the two products we tried, this is our favorite. You have it all with this product, the pleasing scent, effectiveness, and organic. The scent is great, but this is a light scent and isn’t as strong as your typical body wash. The wash contains aloe, macadamia nut oil, and shea butter. Those with dry or sensitive skin will be thrilled with how this body wash doesn’t strip the skin at all. The only downside is that you only get a little bit of lather, so you may go through this wash a bit quicker.

Herbal Essences Body Wash

Sunday, January 12th, 2014

erase4Rose has been a fragrance used in beauty products almost since the beginning. Herbal Essences has continued the tradition with their Happy Go Lather Body Wash, which includes rose extract. This isn’t a body wash with a bunch of complicated ingredients; it only lists rose extract on the front of the bottle. Happy Go Lather Body Wash won’t leave your skin dry, but it doesn’t leave a lot of moisture behind either. We also found that it was a very clean rinsing and loved the scent. Of course, if you don’t like the smell of roses you won’t like this body wash. But they have other body washes that we plan on trying: Body Burst, Hello Hydration, Honey I smell Good, and Totally Twisted.

See our posts about body wash here.

Blavia Skincare – Contour Collection

Monday, February 25th, 2013

erase3Recently, we tried the Blavia Contour Collection from the new brand Blavia Skincare. The premise behind this collection is to prevent skin aging – not just treat it. Even better, this line is for the body, which is unique since most anti-aging lines are for the face. The Contour Collection has Marine Collagen, Vitamins A, B, C, and E, and antioxidants from Green Tea and Grape Seed extracts.  This collection is called Contour as it boosts natural collagen production and strengthens the skins natural barrier, providing a healthier contour.

Contour Shower Gel: Like the other products in the Contour Collection, this gel has a light, fresh fragrance. It’s clean-rinsing and lathers very well.

Contour Scrub: If you want your moisturizer to work well, you need to get rid of dead skin cells. This scrub is for the entire body, but it’s very gentle. The exfoliating particles are mild enough where you could use it every day. This is especially great for people whose skin can’t tolerate harsh exfoliants.

Contour Moisturizer: This is a lightweight moisturizer that you will love if greasy lotions tend to bother you. We think that this moisturizer will especially be in demand during the summer, when thick lotions aren’t as necessary. However, if you have extremely dry skin this lotion may not be heavy enough for you.

After using all three products together we found that our skin felt a lot softer and healthier overall. It’s hard to tell if a product is preventing aging or not, but there have been many studies that show that antioxidants are key in preventing environmental and sun damage (the biggest contributors to aging skin).

Nuance Salma Hayek Exfoliating Body Cleansing Scrub

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

When we read the article on Salma Hayek in Marie’s Claire’s @Work Magazine, we just had to try her line of beauty products, Nuance Salma Hayek. The entire Nuance Salma Hayek line is exclusive to CVS and paraben free, and even better – it’s not tested on animals.  We tried the Exfoliating Body Cleansing Scrub in Macademia Nut, which is not inexpensive for a drugstore brand (it’s $8.99). What surprised us is that it’s a very creamy formula, and it doesn’t actually feel like scrub. This scrub is said to work to remove dead skin cells from the macademia nut oil and the microbeads working together. If you really want to SCRUB your skin, we suggest trying this with a loofa. We really like that the scent is light and doesn’t compete with whatever perfume you wear for the day. Nuance Salma Hayek also offers products in Cosmetics, Skincare, Haircare, and Body. Caress Fine Fragrance Elixirs Body Wash, Scarlet Blossom

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

If you like body wash with a bit more fragrance (i.e. Bath & Body Works) then you’ll enjoy Caress’s new Fine Fragrance Elixirs Body Wash. We tried the body wash in Scarlet Blossom and thought the scent was a great quality – it didn’t smell ‘cheap’. The scent is a unique blend of red lychee and patchouli oil. This body wash also has silkening moisturizers so you don’t have to choose between moisturized skin and smelling great. It’s clean-rinsing and we think it’s appropriate for most skin types except extremely dry. If you are a Caress fan, you should know that we are also giving away Caress Body Wash, Exfoliating Burnt Brown Sugar & Karite Butter; and Caress Body Wash, Moisturizing Daily Silk in our contest of the month, enter to win here!
