BareMinerals Naturally Luminous Daily Duo – Combination Skin
Monday, November 26th, 2012
Changing skincare brands can be quite a commitment since full size products can last for months. At Ulta, we found a 30 day supply of BareMinerals face wash and moisturizer. BareMinerals Naturally Luminous Daily Duo for combination skin contains their ActiveSoil Complex. The ActiveSoil Complex is actually extracted from real soil and contains minerals that benefit the skin. The cleanser also has fruit enzymes for thorough cleansing and exfoliation, avocado oil for hydration, and pomegranate for moisture balance. The moisturizer has anti-oxidants and plant ingredients that hydrate and protect the skin. We thought both products worked well. The Purifying Facial Cleanser is great at removing makeup and the Purely Nourishing Moisturizer has a neat, earthy scent. However, we don’t recommend this product for people with very sensitive skin.

CVS Dual-Sided Facial Cleansing Pads
Tuesday, March 6th, 2012
It’s always neat when a store brand comes out with something great. We are big fans of cleansing cloths here, our favorite being Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes. They save your washcloths/electronic cleanser from your makeup and come in handy when you don’t have the energy to wash your face at night. However, if you are reluctant to buy more than one cleanser for your face, we recommend CVS’s Dual-Sided Facial Cleansing Pads. These are made to work in conjunction with whatever facial cleanser you choose. We really liked using it with Burt’s Bees Sensitive Cleanser – since it’s so gentle you need to buy separate product if you want to exfoliate. However with the CVS cleansing pads you don’t have to. Admittedly, it’s more affordable to buy the cleansing pads than cleansing towelettes; they are only $3.29 on the CVS website for 45 pads. We loved the texture of our skin after using the pads and felt like we got a better clean than the old-fashioned way. This is especially useful for those who have combination skin; you can use the textured size to get rid of dry skin spots without exfoliating your whole face.

Burt’s Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser
Friday, February 24th, 2012
The best thing you can do for sensitive skin is keep its barrier intact. Unfortunately, sometimes this gets damaged with all of the chemical and manual exfoliators on the market. So even if you don’t have sensitive skin naturally, you may have inflamed skin if you’re using harsh cleansers or moisturizers with acids too often. We tried Burt’s Bees Sensitive Skin Facial Cleanser and were very pleased with the results. In only one week we saw a transformation in our skin – less redness and irritation, and a lot less dryness. Since this is a very gentle cleanser, you may want to take off your makeup first with makeup removing towelettes such as Neutrogena’s. We must warn that at first this product may feel like your skin has a film on it, and that may be because you’re accustomed to your skin being stripped of its natural moisture. Try it out for at least a week to see results. We recommend this for not only people with sensitive skin, but for those who have used harsh products and want to give their skin a break. If you have acne, we recommend alternating using this cleanser and your regular acne cleanser until you get the right balance. For instance, try using Sensitive Skin Facial Cleanser in the morning and your acne wash at night. Burt’s Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser is not only 99% natural, it is also fragrance free and hypo-allergenic.

Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System
Tuesday, February 15th, 2011
Although we really wanted to try the Clarisonic Cleansing System, the $195 price tag gave us pause. Clarisonic is a rotating brush for your face that uses sonic technology to cleanse. The Clarisonic claims to be 6x more effective at removing makeup and 2x more effective at removing dirt and oil. By giving a thorough cleansing, the Clarisonic makes it so your skincare products are able to work more effectively. Olay has recently launched their Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System, and this system is said to be just as effective as the Clarisonic! We purchased it at Walgreens for just $29.99, and since they were having a promotion we also got a full-sized cleanser (a $19.99 value) for free. It also comes with a sample size of the Olay Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser. What we loved the most about this is the luxurious feeling of the brush and that it’s whisper quiet. It’s very soft and it’s wonderful to have a spa-like experience every time you wash your face. Also, since the Pro-X Cleansing System exfoliates dead skin cells, it leaves your skin feeling very soft. However, we don’t recommend using this twice a day. Using it more than once may be a little much exfoliation for most people’s skin. Also rather than following the directions on the box which said to massage the cleanser on the face and then use the brush, we just put the cleanser directly on the brush and were happy with the results. The Olay Pro-X replaceable brush head is water-resistant and operates on two speed settings. We’re not sure how great the Clarisonic is in comparison, but we definitely think that the Olay Pro-X is a great buy.

Clearasil DailyClear Daily Face Wash
Friday, January 7th, 2011
Cleansers for acne-prone skin tend to give the deepest cleaning, however they usually contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. If you don’t have acne but still want a very deep clean, we recommend Clearasil DailyClear Daily Face Wash. It doesn’t have acne fighting ingredients which can dry out skin, but it thoroughly gets rid of all makeup and dirt. We also liked that this face wash contains glycerin and aloe, which leaves your skin soft and moisturized. Gentle cleansers are great, but for those of us who like to wear makeup the downside is that they are gentle on makeup as well. We find this product to be reminiscent of Clinique’s Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser, which is great but costs about three times more.
