How to Get Longer, Sexy Lashes Naturally

Tuesday, September 30th, 2014

Who doesn’t want eyelashes like the ones featured in mascara ads? The models always have “come-hither” ones that are long, lush, glossy and voluminous. And even though we know that those lashes are the result of a makeup artist’s expertise or Photoshop, we still flock to drugstores and cosmetic counters anticipating the thicker, fuller lashes that makeup brands promise.

If you’ve been blessed with a good amount of eyelashes, mascara can be a quick and simple fix if you want to give your lashes a little oomph. But what do you do if you don’t have much to work with? False lashes are an option, but who has time to apply them every day? And lash extensions can set you back up to $400 per session. If you want more dramatic lashes and don’t want to go to extremes, here are a few things that you can do to help promote eyelash growth.

Eat a Well-Balanced Diet

Just like the hair on your head, your lashes can thrive if you nourish them from the inside out. By eating a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean proteins, you can help ensure growth. You can also try adding a daily multivitamin if you don’t think you’re getting enough nutrients. A supplement that contains vitamins B, D and E is ideal. These vitamins are key for boosting growth and keeping lashes strong. Biotin is also another option. You can try a supplement or eat biotin-rich foods like bananas, pecans and sardines. Be sure to check with your doctor to make sure that supplements are right for you.

Groom Your Lashes

You take care of your hair every day. So start tending to those lashes. Try brushing your lashes twice a day with an eyelash brush. Brushing on a regular basis can help encourage growth. Add a little vitamin E oil to the process as well. Vitamin E oil is great because it prevents shedding. You can find vitamin E oil at a drugstore or health food store. Other options to try are castor oil and emu oil. Just lightly apply the oil of your choice to your lashes before bedtime, and avoid getting in in your eyes.

Always Be Gentle
When you’re taking off your eye makeup at night, don’t tug or rub your lashes. Use gentle strokes when using makeup remover or cold cream. And if you use lash curlers daily, you might want to take a break from them. Over time, they can weaken lashes and cause breakage. Try combing them instead for a neater look. If you’re looking for a more permanent lash growth solution that won’t break the bank, try everLASHing Lash Growth Serum from Verseo Beauty & Wellness. With this special blend of cell-regenerating peptides, botanical ingredients and lash conditioning elements, you can see healthier and fuller lashes in just four weeks.

Rimmel Lycra Lash Extender

Thursday, December 20th, 2012

When you see a mascara that says it will make your lashes 60% longer with 50% more curl, you’ve got to try it. The lycra in this mascara is said to work by keeping eyelashes flexible, while stretching and holding them in shape for 14 hours. It also contains Vitamin E & Panthenol. What we loved about this mascara was that it never left our lashes brittle. Although it did make our lashes longer, we didn’t quite see a 60% increase. Be careful when applying this mascara – since it makes your eyelashes curl more, it’s easier to accidentally get mascara on your eyelids.

Maybelline Volum’ Express the Falsies Mascara

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012

We already tried Maybelline Volum’ Express the Colossal Mascara so we wanted to give their Falsies Mascara a try. With this product, you actually do get a dramatic, false eye-lash look. The brush is spoon shaped, which really makes a difference, and it also has fibers in it. Fibers are a main ingredient in many mascaras that truly lengthen your lashes. With the Falsies mascara, how you apply it really makes a difference. If you hold the brush spoon side against your lashes you won’t get any clumps. If you do it the other way you get clumps but it also gives more of a false lash effect. One coat of this mascara does the job, but if you want to do more than one definitely don’t let the mascara dry between coats.

L’Oreal Double Extend Eye Illuminator

Monday, November 21st, 2011

We tried L’Oreal’s Double Extend Eye Illuminator just in time for the holidays. This mascara has different shades to complement individual eye color. However, we tried Black Crystal, which is for all eye colors. There are two steps to this mascara. The first one you use to lengthen your eyelashes. This is probably the best mascara we’ve tried so far in terms of lengthening and separating. It really makes every lash stand out. And there are no clumps, so the effect is more ‘I naturally have long lashes’. The second step is used for ‘illuminating’ your eyelashes. It’s not a very obvious effect but if you stand in light you can see the light reflecting pearls in the mascara. This side of the mascara also has a sphere brush which we found to be very useful to do our lower lashes.

Kiss Premium Eyelashes with Applicator Strings – Product Review

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Putting on false eyelashes can be pretty challenging. Kiss has tried to make the process easier with applicator strings. With the strings you can strategically place eyelashes without getting glue all over your hands! We tried it and really liked the strings but it was pretty difficult to get them back on again for re-use the way Kiss had them. Our verdict is that it made eyelash application easier, but it definitely still requires some skill!
