Make Up Forever Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation
Tuesday, February 19th, 2013
When you have combination skin, you need a mattifying foundation so you don’t look greasy, but not all foundations for oily skin are suitable as they have ingredients that can be drying. We tried Make Up Forever Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation because it controls oil without potentially irritating ingredients like salicylic acid. Mat Velvet + uses amino acid coated pigments and contains wheat amidon complex. The silicone in the formula evaporates, leaving behind oil-free makeup. This foundation gives medium coverage, or full coverage if you add another layer. We loved the lightweight feel and that it didn’t dry out our skin, but by itself it did not stop shine for the entire day (however the matte looked lasted for several hours). We recommend this for everyday use for those with combination skin. If you need all day shine control or have very oily skin we suggest Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Foundation.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup
Monday, October 15th, 2012
Many products are developing top-of-the-line formulas for improving healthy and natural cosmetics. This idea is demonstrated in Neutrogena’s new Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup. Available in 12 shades, women are promised a healthy, natural, and light look. The formula uses a blend of antioxidants and SPF 20 to prevent breakouts from occurring and to provide a natural look. Overall, the most important thing to know is that this product works! After using it, our tester’s skin appeared more even-toned and healthy than before. The formula produces the desired results, however, can be heavy if not applied with care.

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Crème Makeup
Monday, September 17th, 2012
When Halle Berry is modeling a product , it’s hard to resist trying it. We tried Revlon’s brand new foundation, ColorStay Whipped Crème Makeup. This is unique to the regular ColorStay because it balances your skin all day so your face won’t look too oily or dry. We loved the formula and found that it kept to its promise of lasting all day (we found we didn’t need to use powder with this). What was unexpected is that the coverage is not very thick. We assumed because of the mousse texture that it would go on full, but you would need to put on a few layers to get to full coverage. If you’re looking for a medium coverage with a light feel, you’ll love this foundation. However, if you’re really looking to conceal, then we recommend you try their PhotoReady Foundation.

Prescriptives Virtual Matte Oil-Control Makeup SPF 15
Monday, April 23rd, 2012
When you have oily skin, the oil tends to break down your makeup, and then over time it looks progressively more ridiculous. We tried Prescriptives Virtual Matte Oil-Control Makeup since Prescriptives has a reputation for being the go to brand for foundation. Unfortunately, Prescriptives is now only available online. So you might be thinking, well how would I get the right foundation? They have a shade finder online so you can select the right shade. However, we found this system to be flawed, particularly since the result is 3 shade recommendations. Your better bet is to do an online chat with one of the beauty experts who will only ask you a couple of questions. But our strategy was to not only give them a couple of celebrities that shared our skin color, but also go on our social media website and give them the image link to our pictures. By doing this we got the perfect shade in the mail! This makeup promises to not only reduce shine but also stop oil production over time. It actually does work! This is a thicker foundation that gives you medium to full coverage, so you natural gals probably won’t like it. The finish isn’t overly matte though, so at least you have a more natural look if not feel. The only drawback with this foundation is that it has salicylic acid, which can be irritating to those with sensitive skin when used on a daily basis. Virtual Matte Oil-Control Makeup costs $35 and shipping is free, but you also get free samples! We got a phenomenal two shade eyeliner and a generously trial sized day moisturizer, so the department store pricing didn’t have as much of a sting. This didn’t have the staying power as one of our favorite foundations, Estee Lauder Double Wear, but at the same time it wasn’t as drying. In sum, this is a great foundation but you need to do some extra work to make sure you select the correct shade.

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation
Friday, January 20th, 2012
Since foundation can truly transform the look of your skin, we certainly don’t judge anyone who’s willing to spend a lot on it. We tried Chanel’s latest foundation – Perfection Lumiere. At $55 it’s pricier then many of the foundations we review but we decided to give it a try. It has a very pleasant light fragrance which is a nice touch. Now, does it give you perfect skin like the model in the photo? We found that it does have a perfect mix of a natural finish with full coverage. In other words, you look like you’re not really wearing much makeup but your imperfections are covered. We think it’s most likely the finish to the makeup, which mimics the texture of skin (not too matte, not too dewy). Lumiere Foundation is also available in 20 shades, so more likely than not, they have a shade for you. This is a long-wearing foundation, but if you have oily skin, you may find this not to be so. This foundation doesn’t stop your face from being greasy. So if you have normal to dry skin, we think this is truly an amazing product! Also remember that department store makeup counters are happy to give samples (which is last for a few days to a week) so you can be completely sure before buying. If you have oily skin and want full coverage that lasts all day, we recommend Estee Lauder’s Doublewear foundation. The only thing that stops it from being perfect is that it’s a bit drying, which is a good thing for oily skin.
