Seventh Generation Lavender Moisturizing Lotion

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

erase2If you like natural products you’re probably already familiar with the Seventh Generation brand, which now has personal care products. We tried their Lavender Moisturizing Lotion which is 95% plant based. This lotion has a nice consistency and moisturizes well. If you apply a lot it can feel a bit heavy, but we love the idea of using a moisturizer without all the chemicals.

St. Ives Natural Soothing Body Lotion

Sunday, March 3rd, 2013

eraseIf you have very sensitive skin, you’ve probably already discovered that oatmeal is a great soothing ingredient. We tried St. Ive’s Natural Soothing Body Lotion since not only does it contain oatmeal, it also has shea butter (a must for dry skin). This is probably one of the richest lotions available on the market. If you prefer thicker creams or body butter, this may still be worth a try. We really liked this formula – the lotion moisturized well and it didn’t irritate at all. The scent is fairly unisex. Although this lotion doesn’t have a nice perfume-like fragrance as other lotions that are more so marketed to women, we recognize that this is probably what also makes it so perfect for sensitive skin.

Tip: If you have very sensitive skin, try also buying detergent and fabric softener formulated for sensitive skin. With so much contact with your skin, clothes can also be a source of irritation.

Blavia Skincare – Contour Collection

Monday, February 25th, 2013

erase3Recently, we tried the Blavia Contour Collection from the new brand Blavia Skincare. The premise behind this collection is to prevent skin aging – not just treat it. Even better, this line is for the body, which is unique since most anti-aging lines are for the face. The Contour Collection has Marine Collagen, Vitamins A, B, C, and E, and antioxidants from Green Tea and Grape Seed extracts.  This collection is called Contour as it boosts natural collagen production and strengthens the skins natural barrier, providing a healthier contour.

Contour Shower Gel: Like the other products in the Contour Collection, this gel has a light, fresh fragrance. It’s clean-rinsing and lathers very well.

Contour Scrub: If you want your moisturizer to work well, you need to get rid of dead skin cells. This scrub is for the entire body, but it’s very gentle. The exfoliating particles are mild enough where you could use it every day. This is especially great for people whose skin can’t tolerate harsh exfoliants.

Contour Moisturizer: This is a lightweight moisturizer that you will love if greasy lotions tend to bother you. We think that this moisturizer will especially be in demand during the summer, when thick lotions aren’t as necessary. However, if you have extremely dry skin this lotion may not be heavy enough for you.

After using all three products together we found that our skin felt a lot softer and healthier overall. It’s hard to tell if a product is preventing aging or not, but there have been many studies that show that antioxidants are key in preventing environmental and sun damage (the biggest contributors to aging skin).

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, by Galderma Laboratories, was specially formulated for people with sensitive and dry skin. This cream particularly benefits people with eczema and psoriasis, but is also great for anyone with dry skin.  We loved how well it moisturized our hands, feet and elbows. The cream doesn’t feel greasy or oily at all and is fragrance free (which is awesome for sensitive skin). The cream is a little pricey when compared to other lotions at about $12 for a 16 oz. tub, but its quality helps make up for the price.

Got2b Guardian Angel Gloss Finish Blow Out Lotion

Friday, January 13th, 2012

At the salon when you get your hair blown out your hair is lustrous and silky. At home it’s easy to get discouraged when your hair starts to get that dried out straw look every time you blow dry. And then afterwards you have to use a curling iron or flat iron just to get the same look that your hairdresser can wield with a blow-dryer. Although we’ve used many heat protectant products, we found Got2b’s Guardian Angel Gloss Finish Blow Out Lotion to be the only one where you could actually see that there was less damage. You blow dry your hair, without the smell of torched hair in your bathroom! With this product we got admirably close to salon blowout. To use, you just spray on sectioned damp hair first, and then blow dry your hair. We appreciated that it was a spray, because it’s hard to get an even application with lotions. The Blow Out Lotion has a nice scent but it’s not overpowering. Got2b also has another product, Got2b Guardian Angel 425° Heat Protect Flat Iron Balm (we tried this one too and it gives great shine and less frizz) that protects your hair from the flat iron. However, since they are both spray on products you may be able to just get away with using the Blow Out Lotion only when styling.
