Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Soothing Moisturizer

Monday, August 26th, 2013

eraseSince we’re big fans of Neutrogena’s Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser, we decided to try their Ultra Gentle Soothing Moisturizer. While the cleanser was way more impressive, the Ultra Gentle Soothing moisturizer was pretty good. Similar to Aveeno facial moisturizer, it contains Feverfew to calm down the skin. It’s not fragrance free, but they’ve managed to include a fragrance that is easy on sensitive skin. Texture wise, it is a creamy lotion that goes on very smoothly and works great under foundation. As promised, Ultra Gentle Soothing Moisturizer is completely non-irritating and really improves the skin hydration. However it would be nice if there were an option without SPF for those with skin irritated by sunscreen. We think it’s most suitable for dry to combination skin. If you have oily skin, the best moisturizer we’ve tried so far is Olay Long Live Satin Finish Moisture Lotion.

Tip: Do you have sensitive skin? Try using a gentle, fragrance free detergent and fabric softener. Even a great skincare regimen can be defeated by harsh chemicals left behind on your washcloths.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 15

Sunday, July 28th, 2013

erase2If you have sensitive skin, a lot of the ingredients used to even skin tone may be too harsh. We tried Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer, which also has an SPF 15. With soy and light diffusers, this lotion is supposed to help with blotchiness and dull skin. This moisturized really well, and actually may be a little too much for those with oily skin to use during the day. It did a really great job at evening skin tone, but didn’t make a huge impact on very dark spots. So if you have a moderate problem with blotchiness this product does the job, but you may need a more intense product for really bad hyperpigmentation.

Olay Long Live Moisture Satin Finish Lotion

Saturday, July 13th, 2013

eraseEven people with oily skin should wear lotion. However, many lotions are geared toward people with dry skin. Finally–Olay’s Long Live Moisture Satin Finish Lotion is perfect for oily or combination skin. It’s light-weight with a matte finish, so it’s especially great for hot or humid days. We loved this lotion’s pleasant scent and how quickly it absorbed in the skin. Also, Satin Finish Lotion seems to take away the need for a mattifier. The product’s packaging doesn’t carry on about the ingredients so we’re not sure what’s in it, we just know it works. Notably absent is an SPF or a list of antioxidants, but perhaps that’s what keeps the lotion so light.

Tip: It may be tempting to not wear lotion if you have oily skin, but keep in mind that oil is not the same thing as hydration, and your skin will produce more oil to compensate for the lack of moisture.

Carmex Healing Lotion

Thursday, June 13th, 2013

Since Carmex makes such an excellent lip balm, we expected their new healing lotion to be just as effective. We tested it on sunburned, peeling skin to really put it to the test. After exfoliating then using it, no more flaking! We found Carmex Healing Lotion to be extremely effective and worthy of being in the same product line as their lip balm. The formula contains aloe and vitamin E as well as a skin protectant (Allantoin). Since the lotion worked so well it made us question why all lotions don’t have Vitamin E and aloe. The scent is more unisex and is reminiscent of cocoa butter. If you’re into fragranced lotion you may not like the scent, but you’ll at least like how it works.

Garnier’s Ultra-Lift 2-in-1 Wrinkle Reducer

Thursday, June 6th, 2013

Women do drastic things in the everlasting quest for beauty, from getting a rhinoplasty to getting a face-lift, looking good can take some investment. For those not ready to go to a doctor and just want a little help, ingredients like hyaluronic acid, retinol, and hydroquinone are all proven to be effective for great looking skin. We recently tried Garnier’s Ultra-Lift 2-in-1 Wrinkle Reducer which contains retinol. Both a serum and a moisturizer, this product is said to bring a significant improvement in lines, wrinkles, and firmness within 2 weeks. Although Ultra-Lift 2-in-1 Wrinkle Reducer has a moisturizer, we still found the product to be a bit drying so we recommend using it with an oil such as Bio Oil if you have dry skin. We also didn’t like the product’s scent too much but it gets a high score on the important part – giving younger looking, healthy skin. Other pros were ease of absorption and its non-greasy texture. We also loved the product packaging, the helix structure of the cream looks cool, and it’s designed so you don’t miss a drop.
