Weleda Sea Buckthorn Replenishing Body Lotion
Tuesday, July 29th, 2014
Have you ever heard of anthroposophy? We definitely hadn’t until we read about Weleda’s company history, which started in 1921. Anthroposophy encourages people to see their minds and spirits as intrinsically linked to the world. Weleda was established with this in mind—to use natural ingredients that can holistically work with and support the body’s healing tendencies. Many assume that an appreciation for natural product is fairly recent, but apparently it’s been around for quite a long time! Another fun fact: Weleda is named after the Celtic goddess of wisdom and healing. We tried Weleda’s Sea Buckthorn Replenishing Body Lotion, which is 100% natural and 97% organic. It contains fatty acids (great for dry skin), vitamin-rich oil from organic sea buckthorn, mallow extract, and shea butter. What we noticed first was the strong and long-lasting citrusy smell that lasts for hours. If you like citrus scents then you’ll love this lotion. The lotion isn’t very thick, but moisturizes and absorbs very well. If you have super dry skin this won’t be enough. But for everyone else, it’s a great lotion to use and of course you get the peace of mind that you’re not putting chemicals on your skin.

Dr. Mercola – Body Lotion and Body Wash
Saturday, July 26th, 2014
There is a growing movement for all-natural products—and as more companies address it the quality of what’s out there improves all the time. We tried a lotion and a body wash from Dr. Mercola, which is a brand that offers all natural products. The thought behind the products makes sense, since our skin is our largest organ, it doesn’t make sense to put products on it that we wouldn’t want to ingest.
Dr. Mercola Organic Body Lotion Unscented – if you’re used to using regular body lotions, this one will be a real adjustment. Even unscented products have a masking fragrance, so with an unscented organic body lotion it’s a different scent all together. All you smell is a faint trace of the ingredients – chamomile, green tea leaf extract, shea butter, jojoba seed oil, and aloe vera. The lotion feels a bit sticky when you apply it – most likely because of the aloe vera. However, it absorbs pretty quickly and does just as good of a job at moisturizing as regular lotions. Which begs the question, why do personal care products have to have so many chemicals? If you have super dry skin, Dr. Mercola also offers a body butter.
Dr. Mercola Fresh Scent Body Wash – of the two products we tried, this is our favorite. You have it all with this product, the pleasing scent, effectiveness, and organic. The scent is great, but this is a light scent and isn’t as strong as your typical body wash. The wash contains aloe, macadamia nut oil, and shea butter. Those with dry or sensitive skin will be thrilled with how this body wash doesn’t strip the skin at all. The only downside is that you only get a little bit of lather, so you may go through this wash a bit quicker.

Burt’s Bees Lip Gloss
Monday, May 27th, 2013
Many lip glosses seem to be the same but we tried Burt’s Bees Lip Gloss since it’s made with natural ingredients. The color goes on very sheer, so anyone can wear even their darkest shades. We found that a great use for this lip gloss is to go under any long wear lipsticks that are drying. It’s lightweight enough that you’ll feel comfortable laying underneath other products. This lip gloss is made of natural ingredients but also looks very natural in color on. We tried the evening glow shade and liked that it added color but still looked natural. Burt’s Bees lip gloss is more for moisturizing, so you can’t wear it by itself for noticeable color.

Yes To Cucumbers Facial Hydrating Lotion
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010
Most people in who have walked through any mall in the United States have probably run into sales pitches from associates at kiosks aggressively selling skincare products containing Dead Sea minerals. These products may be overpriced, but we can’t deny the effectiveness of Dead Sea minerals on the skin. We found a more reasonably priced option at our local drugstore – Yes to Cucumbers Facial Hydrating Lotion. Not only do you get the benefit of Dead Sea minerals, you also get vitamins, proteins, and nutrients from organic green vegetables. If you have sensitive skin you’ll be happy to know that 99.6% of this spring water based lotion’s ingredients are natural, and it’s paraben free. What we loved the most about this lotion was that it was rich enough to transform our dry, dehydrated skin; but it wasn’t greasy at all. Our makeup looked smoother after using this lotion just one time. Yes to Cucumbers is a relatively new product line by Yes to Carrots. For more information, go to www.yestocarrots.com.
