L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche® Nail

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

erase3A lot of nail polishes claim to be long-wearing, so we were surprised when we tried L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Nail polish. It lasted twice as long as our other polishes. It also has a finish that has the same high gloss as a gel polish. Thank goodness for evolving technology because this was by far the highest quality nail polish that we’ve tried. One of our testers with thin nails didn’t quite get the whole 10 days, but still got way longer wear than usual.  Our fave color is Orange You Jealous, which looks fresh and fashionable on its own without any embellishment.

Tip: To avoid an unprofessional looking manicure, start out on each nail with a broad stroke in the center, and then use the rest on the edges. That way overflow won’t go on your skin. Your cuticles will thank you!

Herbal Essences Body Wash

Sunday, January 12th, 2014

erase4Rose has been a fragrance used in beauty products almost since the beginning. Herbal Essences has continued the tradition with their Happy Go Lather Body Wash, which includes rose extract. This isn’t a body wash with a bunch of complicated ingredients; it only lists rose extract on the front of the bottle. Happy Go Lather Body Wash won’t leave your skin dry, but it doesn’t leave a lot of moisture behind either. We also found that it was a very clean rinsing and loved the scent. Of course, if you don’t like the smell of roses you won’t like this body wash. But they have other body washes that we plan on trying: Body Burst, Hello Hydration, Honey I smell Good, and Totally Twisted.

See our posts about body wash here.

Nivea Smooth Sensation Body Lotion

Wednesday, January 8th, 2014

erase3We think any lotion with shea butter is worth trying. Nivea Smooth Sensation Body Lotion contains shea butter and something they call Hydra IQ Technology, which is said to support the skin’s hydration network. Considering it has shea butter, the lotion is lighter than we expected. This is a great if you don’t like greasy lotions, but is a con if you have extremely dry skin and need a thick lotion. On a tester with dry skin, this product worked great. It also has a long-lasting scent, which is something Nivea doesn’t mention. It’s a pleasant, light scent, but it lasts all day.

Tip: Want to get the most out of your lotion?. Before you get in the shower, exfoliate dry skin with a homemade body scrub mixture with half a grated cucumber, 2 tablespoons of salt, and 1 cup of full-fat plain yogurt.

Féria Wild Ombré

Wednesday, December 18th, 2013

erase4Dyeing your hair at home is always a huge risk. We tried Féria Wild Ombré since the brush is supposed to make the process goof proof. The process is actually fairly simple. But what’s different from regular dye kits is that it contains a bleaching powder that you add to the bottle. Be careful, because even a small amount of this powder makes spots if it comes in contact with your clothes. The brush is really easy to use and naturally makes even stripes in your hair. If you want a more subtle highlighted look, you can just do one pass per section of hair. If you want it a more dramatic look, then use it to saturate your hair strands. You’ll want to make sure you use the brush either way to control the product.  The end results are very pretty and surprisingly professional looking. However, even after leaving it on for the recommended maximum time on the box, the lightening was subtle. So you won’t quite get the dramatic look that’s on the box. We tried this with only 3 passes per section of hair with the brush, so perhaps if we saturated the strands more the Ombré would be more pronounced. The brush is amazing and would be perfect for adding lowlights or highlights with other kits, so make sure you keep it!

Mustela Stretch Marks Intensive Action

Monday, November 25th, 2013

erase3Unfortunately, you don’t have to be pregnant to get stretch marks. We tried Mustela’s Stretch Marks Intensive Action Cream, which retails at about $42. Though more expensive than similar products at stores like Target and Ulta, it also comes up with studies to back up their claims. 96% of expectant mothers who used Stretch Marks Intensive Action did not develop stretch marks. The formula contains nourishing oils, peptides, alpha hydroxy acid, to name just a few of the many helpful ingredients it contains. So this goes further than simply moisturizing the skin. One tester tried it on older stretch marks and found it to be really effective. Of course they didn’t make them disappear, but there was a really impressive reduction in appearance. Another tester tried it on scars that were a bit more recent and that also gave nice results.  From what we’ve seen, it does seem believable that this cream could prevent the formation of stretch marks altogether.  Now if only they could come up with a product this effective for cellulite…
