Tips to Prepare Your Skin for Winter Weather
Thursday, September 25th, 2014
As the first official day of fall is just behind us, this is the perfect time to start thinking about the changes to your skincare routine to keep your skin protected in the cooler months of the year.
1. Use a Good Face Moisturizer
One of the most important steps is to add a good facial moisturizer to your daily routine (if you aren’t already use one). Assuming you’ve already been using one, now is the time to switch to a deeper moisturizer. A great product for the coldest winter months is Neutrogena Deep Moisture Day Cream with SPF 20. Even though it’s cold outside, the sun’s damaging rays can still harm skin so don’t forget to wear sun protection!
2.Condition Before You Wash
Condition dry hair with a deep conditioner before washing. Use a shower cap and coat your hair with an intensive conditioner like Dove’s Intensive Repair Conditioner. Leave the conditioner on for 30 minutes to an hour to help retain moisture. Adding this to your routine once a week can help prevent dryness. Also make sure to use a moisturizing body wash such as Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash, to keep your skin hydrated.
3. Reduce Your Shower Time
Taking long hot showers may be tempting in the winter months, but the heat can strip your skin of the moisture that it needs most during this time of year. Try to keep your shower length to ten minutes and don’t put the water at it’s peak temperature.
4. Keep Your Skin Conditioned
Get a good moisturizer for your hands and body such as Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Healing Ointment. The moisturizer helps protect from drying effects of wind and cold weather. Make sure to keep a travel size product with you for when you are on-the-go.

Neutrogena Deep Moisture Night Cream
Friday, May 30th, 2014
There aren’t many intense nighttime moisturizers that claim to relieve extreme dryness without a greasy feel. We tried Neutrogena’s Deep Moisture Night Cream, and considering the light texture, it didn’t seem like it would be enough for our tester with dry skin. On the box, it says that Deep Moisture Night Cream is clinically proven to dramatically increase skin’s moisture level in just 1 week. If you have very dry skin, this will be a unique experience for you. It’s a lighter moisturizer, but it’s just as powerful at combating dryness as a heavy cream. The more you use it, the more you’ll feel like you don’t need it. However, the first couple of days are not that impressive at all. This product really gets to work after several days of use. No more flaking and plumper skin. So in sum, if you need an immediate quick fix this product isn’t the best choice. But if you’re willing to wait a week or longer, you’ll see an amazing improvement in your skin. To see more of our posts about Neutrogena, click here.

Vaseline Total Moisture Cocoa Radiant Lotion
Sunday, March 10th, 2013
Cocoa butter has always been a go to ingredient for people with very dry skin. Vaseline has just introduced their Total Moisture Cocoa Radiant Lotion, which has cocoa butter as well as ingredients to make the moisture go deeper than the outer layer of skin. This is a bit lighter than other cocoa butter body treatments, such as those by Palmer. However, we were pleased to see that the lotion gave long lasting moisture. We weren’t huge fans of the scent, but this is an excellent formula for those who want a lot of moisture without a heavy feel. We’re also pretty excited to try their newest product – Spray & Go Moisturizer.
Tip: If you have extremely dry skin and lotion doesn’t seem to do the trick, try putting on lotion and then use a light layer of gel oil on top. The oil will keep all the moisture from evaporating from your skin.

Blavia Skincare – Contour Collection
Monday, February 25th, 2013
Recently, we tried the Blavia Contour Collection from the new brand Blavia Skincare. The premise behind this collection is to prevent skin aging – not just treat it. Even better, this line is for the body, which is unique since most anti-aging lines are for the face. The Contour Collection has Marine Collagen, Vitamins A, B, C, and E, and antioxidants from Green Tea and Grape Seed extracts. This collection is called Contour as it boosts natural collagen production and strengthens the skins natural barrier, providing a healthier contour.
Contour Shower Gel: Like the other products in the Contour Collection, this gel has a light, fresh fragrance. It’s clean-rinsing and lathers very well.
Contour Scrub: If you want your moisturizer to work well, you need to get rid of dead skin cells. This scrub is for the entire body, but it’s very gentle. The exfoliating particles are mild enough where you could use it every day. This is especially great for people whose skin can’t tolerate harsh exfoliants.
Contour Moisturizer: This is a lightweight moisturizer that you will love if greasy lotions tend to bother you. We think that this moisturizer will especially be in demand during the summer, when thick lotions aren’t as necessary. However, if you have extremely dry skin this lotion may not be heavy enough for you.
After using all three products together we found that our skin felt a lot softer and healthier overall. It’s hard to tell if a product is preventing aging or not, but there have been many studies that show that antioxidants are key in preventing environmental and sun damage (the biggest contributors to aging skin).

Mustela Dermo-Pediatrics Stelatopia Moisturizing Cream
Thursday, February 14th, 2013
The winter months can be particularly difficult for those with eczema. We tried Mustela’s Stelatopia Moisturizing Cream, which is a fragrance, colorant, and paraben free moisturizer. It helps skin by restoring natural lipids and is fine to use in conjunction with eczema medication. One of our testers that suffer from eczema gave it a try and found it to be gentle and non-irritating as promised. However, it may be more appropriate to call this moisturizer a lotion instead of a cream because it’s not as thick as typical creams
